Land is drained by the Little Sandy and the Indian Run Rivers. Coal is present in many places. Conotton Valley Railway provided the transportation. There were many quarries. The township is bounded by: N - Nimishillen Township, E - Paris Township, S - Sandy Township and Carroll Township, W - Canton Township. Spring of 1806 1st Settlement by John Thomas, Jacob Kitt, and John Sluss (all Pennslyvania Natives). The old township was formed before Stark County, and was a part of Columbiana County. (Check in Stubenville.) From the "Barnburners and History of the Pennslyvania Dutch": Came over from Germany and settled in a town called Germantown, near Philadelphia, Pennslyvania. Most of them followed Zane's trace through Ohio - Chillocothe, Circleville, and ended in Lancaster, Ohio (Fairfield County). For historic drive start in Baltimore CR 13(Basil Western Road) West. Stop at CR36 near Pickerington.
