Best) CLEM U. BEST DIES AT RESIDENCE HERE ----------------- Pioneer Resident For Years Identified With Lighting Industry Clem V. Best, 75, one of Canton's pioneer residents and for many years prominently identified with the lighting industry of Canton, died Wednesday night in his home, 1617 Woodland ave NW, following a brief illness. Mr. Best was born in Carrollton and at the age of three years moved to Canton with his family. When a very young man he became interested in lighting and its equipment and in a short time, was head of Ohio Lighting company, which was later absolved by the Sun Vapor company. In the year 1896 with his brother, Grant Best, he formed the Best Lighting Company. He served as its president and superintendent. He was the holder of a number of patents incident to lights and lighting systems. He retired from active business, May 1, 1920. Mr. Best was for many years a member of the First M. E. church and Washington council, Jr. O.U.A.M. He leaves two sons, Homer, of the home and Charles, of Canton; a daughter, Mrs. Rev. Charles Johnston, of Blissfield, a granddaughter and a step-grandson, also a sister, Mrs. Eva D. MacDonald, of Los Angeles. * * *
