Canton, Ohio December 21, 1940. Edward J. Eicher, 76, of 43rd st. and Cleveland ave NW, died Friday night in Mercy hospital of injuries suffered late Thursday afternoon when struck by an auto while he was walking on route 8 a mile north of Canton. He was the 65th traffic fatality in Stark county this year. Last year the toll was 58. Two other persons suffered minor injuries Friday in traffic accidents in Canton. Mr. Eicher was taken to the hospital where it was found that he suffered compound fractures of both legs, and injury to his left arm and deep scalp lacerations. Harry G. Hoyler, 42, of 2225 Clyde pl SW, driver of the auto told deputy sheriffs Mr. Eicher walked into the path of his car and that it was impossible to avoid hitting him. A life resident of Stark county, Mr. Eicher operated a farm for many years on Georgetown rd. He was a deacon at Grace Reformed church and an active choir member. He is survived by his widow, Laura; five daughters, Mrs. Ben Texter, Mrs. Paul Whorl and Mrs. Lawson Loxley of Canton, Mrs. Gerhart Zagray of Akron and Pearl of the home; seven sisters, Mrs. Henry Frantz and Mrs. George Kauffman of Cleveland, Mrs. Amelia Gear, Mrs. Matilda Myers, Mrs. Pearl Gettle and Mrs. John Tschantz of Canton and Mrs. G. L. Heibner of Miami, Fla., two brothers, Albert E. and John J. of Canton, and three grandchildren. The body is at Seesholtz Memorial.
