Best, 88, of 1617 Woodland ave NW, son of a pioneer Canton couple and active in local politics, died Tuesday night at Crestwood nursing home. Mr. Best, who was born in Canton, was the son of Clem V. and Mary Best. His father and his fathers' brother, J. Grant Best, were coowners of the old Best Street Light Co., a gas light company located at the site of the Hercules Engine division of Hupp Corp. Mr. Best was superintendent of the company for a number of years. He aslo was associated with the old Wilson-Painter Electric Co. of Canton. He was active in politics and at the time of his death, was serving as Republican committeeman of Ward 7, Precinct D. He had been a member for more than 50 years of the Lily Lodge, Knights of Pythias, and was a member of the Stark County Historical Society. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gerald Kittoe of the home, and a grandson. His wife, Iva Jones Best, preceded him in death. Rev. Harold Davis will conduct services Friday at 1:30pm at the Formet & Clevenger funeral home. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
