June 6, 1936; page 1 Two Massillon Men Victims in Double Killing Police today were attempting to piece together circumstances which led up to the death of two Massillon men in a double shooting early Friday evening. The dead are Roy Lowry, 60, of 122 South ave SE, former city councilman, and his brother-in-law George A. Schrock of 215 15th st NW. Mr. Lowry, police reported was shot to death by his brother-in-law who then turned the gun on himself. Both died from bullet wounds in the heart. The shooting took place at the home of Mr. Lowry in the presence of his son, Harold, 30. Mr. Lowry, Mr. Schrock and the younger Mr. Lowry had just finished their evening meal. Hearing a shot a few minutes after his father had walked out the kitchen into the livingroom, he found his father lying on the floor. He was dead when he reached his side. He had been shot in the back, the bullet passing through his heart and lodging in the chest. Mr. Schrock, standing in the doorway between the livingroom when his nephew entered, ran upstairs, locking at door at the foot of the staircase to prevent pursuit. While he summoning a neighbor the younger Mr. Lowry heard another shot upstairs. Police were unable to get the stairway door open. Using a ladder, police finally gained entrance to a second floor bedroom and found Mr. Schrock lying across a bed. He was dead from a shot through the heart. A .38 caliber automatic pistol lay on the floor at the side of the bed. Two chambers had been fired. Coroner T.D. McQuade began an investigation Friday night. He reported that both men apparently had died almost instantly. Police officials said the two men had had difficulties over an estate and that the dispute had become an obsession with Mr. Schrock. Mrs. Schrock is a sister of Mr. Lowry. (Note: this is probably in error as I believe it should read that Mrs. Lowry is a sister of Mr. Schrock. Mrs. Lowry was the former Harriet Bernice Schrock) Mr. Schrock retired three years ago. Mr. Lowry was a machinist employed in a Massillon industry and formerly had operated a garage and automobile sales agency. Mr. Lowry leaves another son, Wilbur of the home; three daughters, Mary and Helen of the home and Mrs. Pauline Clapper of Massillon, and a granddaughter. Mr. Schrock leaves his widow, Catherine (note: Mr. Schrock’s wife was the former Selina Kramer unless there was a divorce and he remarried; in which case perhaps it was to a sister of Mr. Lowry), of Chicago, from whom he was separated 10 years ago; a son Myron Schrock of Chicago, and two grandchildren. Both bodies were taken to the Gordon – Shiednagle – Hollinger funeral home. The Canton Repository. Canton, Ohio. June 7, 1936.
