It is my desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be first paid. 2. It is my will and express desire that after the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses, my beloved wife, Margaret BACHTEL shall have all my property, both real and personal, to use and occupy while she shall live, that my wife Margaret BACHTEL shall have the right under this my will to use, sell and dispose of the personal property as she may deem fit. 3rd. It is my will that after the death of my beloved wife, Margaret BACHTEL, all my estate remaining to go to my children share and share alike. Except as now follows, that whereas I have paid and am now held responsible for certain debts of my son Martin BACHTEL, Jr. The sums paid by me and others for which I am responsible, amounting to the sum of about eighteen hundred dollars, shall be considered as an advancement. And it is my will that the share which would be his (Martin BACHTEL, Jr.) after deducting the said advancement, the balance of any, shall go to said Martin BACHTEL, Jr.’s wife and child, Mary BACHTEL, so long as she, the wife, remains his wife or widow, and in case of her death or marriage, to the said child, Mary BACHTEL. The children who are to take under this my will and testament as above set further are Jacob BACHTEL, David BACHTEL, John BACHTEL, David BACHTEL, Margaret REED, Ellen HARMON, Elizabeth MAILLARD, and the afore named Martin BACHTEL, Jr. It is my desire, and I hereby appoint my son Jacob BACHTEL, and my son in law Samuel REED, my executors of this my last will and testament. And it is my hope and wish that they will carry with effect its provisions in the spirit and intention in which it is made. In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal, this 31st day of October A.D. 1887.
