After serving in the 4th Maryland Regiment during the Revolutionary War, he moved to Springfield Township around 1810 with his wife and five of their eight sons: John, Jehu, Thomas, Edward, and David and purchased 538 acres of land from Colonel Simon Perkins. Much of the land which he later sold to his sons with David purchasing the largest section centered around the area of the intersection of Canton Road and Albrecht Ave. Although referred to as "The Burgh" in those early years, it became known as "The Center" and citizens from the allotment and outlying areas would look forward to shopping there. A frame building was erected, replacing the original lay house of worship which had burned. Although legend has it that the Indians were responsible, church records do not substaniate that claim. Jehu (John) was represented in the community through descendants of his daughter, Kezia Jane, and his son King J., whose daughters were Martha White and Cora Weston. Desecendants of Thomas remained here also, traced through his son Lewis, and grandson, Charles Ellet. From History of Summit County, Ohio by William H.
