Since early manhood and over a period of thirty years William Daniel Myers has been the type of citizen and business man exemplifying the highest qualities of trustworthiness and personal efficiency. He has been a merchant and is now a leading realtor. His activities in the Masonic order have brought him many honors, and he has done much to build up the efficiency of that fraternity in Akron. He was born November 24, 1876, on a farm then just outside the city limits of Akron, in Summit County. His grandfather came from Pennsylvania, while his father, William Myers, was born in Summit county, and in 1860 became a bookkeeper for the mercantile firm of Hall brothers, and was in their service many years. He was a democrat and Lutheran. His wife was Harriet Jane Pryor, a native of Northampton Township, Summit County. The home where W.D. Myers spent his boyhood and youth has in later years become one of the fine residential suburbs of Akron, the North Hill section. He attended the public schools of the city, and subsequently, while working to pay his way, attended Buchtel college. Seven of his early years were taken up with his duties as a grocery clerk, and for five years he did electrical work for a specialty rubber manufacturing concern. For about thirteen years he was a member of Myers-Bailey Company, hardware merchants at Akron, leaving that to become associated with the real estate department of the Herberich-Hall-Harter Company. In 1921 he organized the Standard Realty Company, and has since been vice president and secretary of this general real estate and insurance organization. Mr. Myers is a trustee of the Akron Real Estate Board, and has acquittted himself well in the performance of his civic duties. During the World war he worked with all the committees raising funds. He is a democrat and Lutheran, enjoys flowers and gardening, but his chief interest is Masonry. His affiliations include Mt. Akra Lodge No. 680, Free and Accepted Masons; Washington Chapter No. 25, Royal and Select Masters; Bethany Commandery No. 72, Knights Templar and Al Koran Temple of the Mystic Shrine at Cleveland. In 1924 he was elected monarch of Yusef Khan Grotto No. 41, an organization for which Master Masons are eligible, and numbering now over 2,500. He also belongs to the Shrine Patrol, is chairman of the entertainment committee of the Shrine Club, and is president of the Hot Sands Club, a local Masonic social organization. Mr. Myers married at Akron Miss Lillian Johnson, who was born and reared in Pennsylvania, from which state her father, W.C. Johnson, came to Ohio and was a concrete contractor in Sandusky and Akron. He was a Quaker. Mrs. Myers is active in the woman's branches of Masonry, the Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem and Daughters of Mocanna. The two children of Mr. and Mrs. Myers are John and Helen. ____________________________ *************OH-FOOTSTEPS LIST****************
