July 18, 1840 in East Liberty, Ohio. Married Angeline Viers on May 9, 1869. William Died Jan 21, 1916 in Akron, Summit Co., OH. Angeline b. May 26, 1849 died Dec 8, 1924 in Summit Co., OH. William was in the Civil War as a Private in Co. G, 29th Reg. Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He filed pension papers on May 17, 1912. He enrolled the first time at Akron, Ohio on Sept. 30th, 1861 as a private. He was Honorably discharged at Wauhatchie, Tenn on December 21, 1863. He enrolled Dec. 21, 1863 and was discharged July 3, 1865 at Louisville, KY. His Personal description at enlistment was: 5 feet 6 inches, light complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. He was a cooper by trade. He also stated that he had lived in Akron and vicinity all the time since leaving the Army. History of Claimant's Disability: His occupation listed was Carpenter and claimed the disability for "Rhumatism and wound in left knee which was contracted at Normandie Station Tennesee, on or about September 1863, we went into winter quarters and ordered to constant quarters and while so enjoyed in preparing timbers and logs for quarters, my Hatchet sliped and cut left knee ? severly. Was sent to Tullahoma Hospital for a few days and to Nashville Tennesee several weeks and treated by Surgeons in charge contracted additional Rhumatisam while at sedge of Atlanta GA. Treated by Regimental Surgeon until discharged from Service". From my said discharge to the present time, I have received the following medical treatment for said disease: "By Doctor Dochanty of Greentown, Stark Co., O about six weeks followed his prescriptions until about 1870 when I was treat for same above samed disease by Dr. Baker of Akron, Ohio about six years and have since been treated by my present family Physician Dr. AK Touser of Akron, Ohio whose affidavit of my present disability I herewith enclose". "After my discharge I was only able to preform manual labor for one half of my time at my trade of carpenter owing to Rhumistism and that I am now totally unable to work for my living at my trade except ocasionally in very favorable weather. I may sometimes for a few days at a time be able to do some of the lighter work of my trade. (Two witnesses "who can write" signed) Samuel Winkleman, aged 48, signed a statement that he was well aquainted with William Cline "While in front of Atlanta GA in the month of August he was sent back to the wagon train, in consequence of the rumatism. Also the same trouble. While in front of Savannah GA he was sent back also that he has bee troubled with rumatism much since he came out the service. My reason for knowing, he belongs to the same Post with myself, and meet him frequently and at the anually reunions."
