He was born December 2, 1919, in Sparta, Tenn. He lived in Akron for 56 years. He retired from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. with 36 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II with the 101st Airborne Division. Mr. Sims was a member of the Akron Baptist Temple and Golden Agers. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by brothers, Obert, Jack and Dan Sims, and sister, Leta Vandever. He is survived by wife, Lucille; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Bob Smith, Connie and John Bennett, all of Fairlawn; grandchildren, David, Leigh, Chris Smith and Kristin Bennett; grate granddaughter, Taylor Smith; sister, Mildred Sims Horton of Quebeck, Tenn.; and nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Monday, 3 p.m. at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Charles F. Billington officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call the funeral home Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Visiting Nurse Service and the Hospice Development Foundation, 1200 McArthur Drive, Akron 33320.
