He was surprised with the announcement at the Fourth of July Parade. The award is made by the Fairlawn Chamber of Commerce. Members and co-workers of the impressive list of organizations and activities of which he has been a part are fondly familiar with the gruff, gravelly voice, the shock of white hair, and the bubbly, exuberant personality that makes him a vital part of so much in the community. He is not often in the foreground of activities, to pick up the limelight, but in the background, doing the nitty gritty, behind the scenes work that has made him a mainstay of so many community projects. Fred and his wife Helen and 19-year-old George Lee have lived in Fairlawn 18 years and are active in the Montrose Zion United Methodist Church.
