HISTORY OF TRUMBULL COUNTY, OHIO (Page 38 1/4) OBED GILDER, Kinsman Among the early and worthy citizens of this town, none deserve a better record than the subject of this sketch. Obed Gilder, son of Obadiah and Chloe G., was born in Hartland, Hartford County, Conn., 29th March 1793. His father was a mechanic, and young Obed inherited a talent for the art of mechanism. In the fall of 1804 Obadiah landed in Gustavus, with his family, consisting of eleven in all, one of whom was Obed. The country at that time was an unbroken wilderness, and the axe the principal implement in demand. In February, 1819, he married Miss Betsey Gunn, who was born November 20, 1796; result of this union, eleven children,--seven of whom are living. Mr. Gilder settled where he is at present living in 1815. A general mechanic by trade. He has held several town offices, and is esteemed a worthy member of society. Is a member of the Presbyterian Church. In politics a Republican. December 7, 1804, his wife died; she was a good member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Gilder is now an old man of eighty-two years, and is spending the evening of his days with his son Miles, who is the donor of this sketch in honor of his parents. Miles Gilder is a manufacturer of implements and a mechanic in general. He also owns a flour-mill where he lives, at which he also grinds feed. ==== Maggie_Ohio Mailing List ====
