Jonathan Trumbull was an early Ohio governor. He was nicknamed "Brother Jonathan" by George Washington and became an early symbol of America. Trumbull County comprised the entire Western Reserve until the formation of the state of Ohio in 1803. It was named for Jonathon Trumbull (1740-1809). Warren was the countyseat. It is comprised of 616 square miles. This area was acquired from four Indian Tribes- The Wyandots, Delawares, Chippewas, and Ottawas. The Indians became dissatisfied with the treaty the white men established and refused to cooperate. Years of war between Indians and Whites followed.
