My dear son We have received your letters but have been negligent in not answering them sooner. Our health is quite good, the weather is quite mild for the season. You perhapse think it a strange move my coming to Rochester and perhapse it is but I was partly forced to it. I do not like living here very well. We live up stairs and have no convenience for any thing. My place is not sold. I shall not sell it at present. I want a home while I stay whether it is longer or a short time. I mifs [miss] Lucina very much. She was the oldest of my children and I had a great deal of confidence in her. She has left a world of trial, we shall soon follow her and if we are as good as she was, we shall enjoy the blifs [bliss] that she does. Please give my respects to Mr. Cortright family and others that enquire after us and save a portion for your self and believe me affectionately yours, T. Brewster NOTE: this letter was enclosed in an envelope and addressed to “John H. Wing Esq., Brookfield, Trumbull Co., Ohio.” The author of the letter was Tryphosa (Jewett) Brewster (born 2 July 1791 in Bennington, Vermont; death unknown), wife of Loring Brewster (born 11 Dec 1789 in Springfield, Hampdon County, Massachussetts; died 30 April 1880 in Cape May, New Jersey). The Lucina she mentions was Lucina B. Brewster (born 15 Oct 1813 in Weybridge Township, Addison County, Vermont; died 2 Sept 1855 in Trumbull County, Ohio of unknown causes) who married John Hull Wing (born 30 Sept 1811 in Stanford, Dutchess County, New York; died 10 March 1881 in Trumbull County, Ohio) sometime before 26 March 1834.
