I found this letter among our family papers and thought it might be of
interest to someone (although I have no idea who these people are or
why we have this letter):

"Miss Mary Ann Achor
Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio

October 20, 1850, Wellsville, Columbianna, Ohio

Dear Madam, it gives me Real pleasure to sit down for the first time
in my life for to let you now that I arrived at this place yesterday
at 1 o'clock P.M.  I think I shall stay hear until spring.  I can't
tell hardly what I shall do but I shall do the best I can.  It looks
very loansom hear, look around you can't see nothing but hills and
they look dark and gloomy.  I can look out on the Broad Smooth Surface
of the Ohio River and see the steamboats work their way up or down
with all the Ease in the world.  My pen can't discribe my feelings. 
The evening I left Warren I left it with a heavy hart, it seemed as
though I had parted with my sociats of my younger days.  When I left
that plase I did not leave with the intention of never coming back a
gain for theirs some of my sociates in that town I would do more for
than any Person that I ever got acquainted with in all my life.  I
never would of left if it had not been for my own benefit.  If I could
of done as well their as hear I would of took up with your pursuasion
and staid but you must try and do the best you can and I will do the
same.  For I think more of you than I ever did of any of my Brothers
of sisters.  If I live and nothing happens, I shall come and see you
in the coarse of a couple of months.  The time will seem long until I
do come.  I wish you was hear.  I want to see you now, the time will
seem long until you can say you will Ever be Mine not for one day but
for ever.  I love you As I never loved another.  I must bring my
letter to a close for it is now 4 o'clock and it is quite cold.
