Edwards, 77, of 109 Orchard Court, one of Niles best known residents and one time a leading building contractor in this area, died at 1:10 p. m. Tuesday in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown of complications. Mr. Edwards entered the hospital about eight weeks ago to under go an operation for the removal of cataracts on his eye. On Feb. 19 he accidentally fell from a wind of the hospital and suffered injuries. He was born in Mineral Ridge May 25, 1872, a son of Edward and Ellen Siddall Edwards, pioneer residents of Niles. For many years Mr. Edwards was a building contractor. He was largely responsible for bringing the Mahoning Valley Steel Co. to this city and was one of the founders of Edwards Engineering Co. The company was formed in 1929 to make an automatic car loader invented by Mr. Edwards and his brother, Harry, of Niles. Until his retirement in 1949, Mr. Edwards was superintendent of the McKinley Memorial. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Dlmer Green, with whom he mad his home, Miss. Sara Estelle Edwards in New York City, Mrs. Daniel Newey In Birmingham. Mich., two grandchildren, and a brother, Harry Edwards, of Niles. Mrs. Edwards the former Catherine Bird to whom he was married in June of 1900 died here in 1944. The body is at the Holeton Funeral Home where friends may call Wednesday evening and Thursday after 4 p.m. Services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. with rev. Robert T. Kelsey, pastor for Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the mausoleum at the Union Cemetery.
