Melvin E. Rose, for forty-seven years a resident of Niles. Died at the Youngstown City hospital at 3:40 yesterday afternoon following a short illness. Mr. Rose was born in Ellsworth, O., October 24, 1849, the son of Hiram and Abigal Wagner Rose. On October 24, 1872 he was united in marriage to Louisa J. Talbitzer, who preceded him in death nine years ago, having died November 11, 1918. Forty-seven years ago he came to Niles with his family and became identified with the Niles Public schools as custodian of the old Central school building, starting his duties in 1886. Later he served in the McKinley High school building until the dedication of the McKinley Memorial, which he became custodian of that building. Mr. Rose, in his long and useful life has been made hosts of friends and his going will cause widespread grief through out the city. He was a faithful member of the Niles Presbyterian church. He was a graduate of the Commercial Department of Oberlia collage. Since the death of his wife, he has made his home with his son, John H. Rose of Robbins av., and his body was taken there yesterday. Surviving are his two sons, G. Homer Rose and John H. Rose, both of this city and one sister, Mrs. D. A. Bell. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the home of his son at 421 Robbins av. Rev. J. H. Lawther will officiate. Burial will be made in the Union cemetery.
