The deaths of R. A. Button, July 17, and Jesse Morehouse, June 30, have been mentioned and now I have to report that of James Sealy, aged 75 years, which took place Thursday morning, June 7. Mr. Sealy had been in feeble health for many years; had no disease particularly, but simply wasted away. He was a native of England and came to this country with his parents' large family over fifty years ago. Was married to Eliza Taylor and there were born to them - one son and three daughters. The son died in childhood, and the daughters are Mrs. R. A. Wilcox and Mrs. O.E. Sprague, of this place, and Mrs. S.S. Welchman, of Bloomfield. Two brothers, Joseph and Robert, who live in this town, and one brother Thomas, who is in the west, also survive. James Sealy was a member of Co. G., 18th O.V.I., and a pensioner. No other ex-soldier had died in this town since June 14, 1896, when Lieut. Charles E. Bridgen passed away. Mr. Sealy was a member of C.A. Eddy Post, G.A.R., and at his request, he was interred in his suit of blue, with his Grand Army badge and button, and a bow of red, white and blue in a conspicuous place on his breast. His casket was wrapped with the stars and stripes. Six comrades, W.W. Tracey, Job Reynolds, G.W. Willcox, Caleb French, R.N. Holcomb and C.N. Bates, served as bearers. Rev. S. Y. Kennedy preached the funeral discourse. (Source: Newspaper obituary published in the Western Reserve Chronicle, 13 July 1898.)
