He married Lucretia Woodward, daughter of Jonathan and Abigail Gates Woodward of Gill, Massachusetts on May 16, 1809. She was born April 7, 1783 and died February 7, 1877. Their children were: Hubbard, Sally Mitchell, Lathrop, Nancy Hollister, Mathew, Climena Barnes, Susannah Warren, Amanda Carver, and Allen B. born February 11, 1826. Holmes Mayhew had been a resident of Bristol for 52 years. Holmes arrived in Bristol in early summer, 1822 and purchased the farm known as the Albert farm, which had been cleared some years prior. An orchard had been planted and was just beginning to bear fruit, which was uncommon at that time. There was a three room log cabin on the property which was quite comfortable. His daughter Sally married Martin Mitchell of Parkman, November 24, 1833. Nancy married Elisha D. Hollister October 28, 1838 and they had sons, Herbert and Holmes Hollister. After Nancy died, Elisha married (2) Mrs. Nancy S.B. Weir on November 30, 1854. Amanda, daughter of Holmes Mayhew, married Lorenzo Carver December 25, 1844. Susannah, a daughter of Holmes and Lucretia married Darius Comstock on November 14, 1841.
