Agnes E. Carothers was born March 3, 1855 at Knox, Guernsey, Ohio to William L. 
Carothers and Sarah Dales Carothers (emigrants from Ireland). She was the 
seventh of twelve children. Her siblings were: John Carothers, William Dales 
Carothers, John Carothers II, George Patterson Carothers, Margaret Jane 
Carothers, James Carothers, Andrew G. Carothers, Samuel M. Carothers, Sarah Ann 
Carothers, Martha Carothers and Mary Carothers. 

Agnes can be found living with her parents in the 1860 census at Liberty, 
Guernsey, Ohio: 
William Carothers 43, Sarah Carothers 49, William D Carothers 16, John 
Carothers 14, George Carothers 12, Margaret J Carothers 9, Agnes Carothers 7, 
Andrew Carothers 3, James Carothers 5.

Next found in the 1870 and 1880 censuses living at Knox, Guernsey, Ohio: 
1870: William Carothers 55, Sarah Carothers 51, James Carothers 17, Jane 
Carothers 19, Agness Carothers 15, Andrew Carothers 12. 

1880: keeping house: Wm. Crothers 63, Sarah Crothers 59, Agness Crothers 24, 
James Crothers 27, Samuel Crothers 19, Sarah Crothers 16, Mary H. Crothers 11.

Agnes married David A. Thompson about 1888 at Guernsey County, Ohio. 

The couple had 4 sons: 
William Harrison Thompson (born October 9, 1888 Ohio, married Alcie Emerson 
March 21, 1910, died 1955); 

Samuel Carothers Thompson (born July 15, 1890 Newcomerstown, Tuscarawas, Ohio, 
married Lulu Easter Owens October 28, 1915, died July 29, 1956 same place); 

Harvey Albert Thompson (born June 24, 1894 Ohio, married E. Kathleen Prosser, 
died August 3, 1953 Fort Lauderdale, Broward, Florida); and 

Virgil Ellis Thompson (born April 3, 1896 Newcomerstown, Tuscarawas, Ohio, 
married Anna Knoph, died May 7, 1967 Canton, Stark, Ohio). 

Family found in the 1900 and 1910 censuses living at Oxford, Tuscarawas, Ohio: 
1900: David Thompson 36, Agnes E Thompson 44, Willie H Thompson 11, Samuel C 
Thompson 9, Harvey A Thompson 6, Virgel E Thompson 4. 

1910:Agnes Thompson 55, widowed, Samuel C Thompson 19, Albert Thompson 16, 
Virgil Thompson 14. 

Agnes E. (Carothers) Thompson died January 30, 1915 at Columbus, Fairfield, 
Ohio. She is buried at the East State Street Cemetery, Tuscawaras, Ohio.

Note: censuses transcribed as found, obvious spelling errors were not corrected.
There are many variations of the spelling of the surname Carothers that were 
used throughout history: Carrothers, Caruthers, Crothers are examples.
