Benjamin Robert Carothers was born September 15, 1864 at Liberty township, 
Guernsey county, Ohio to Samuel Edward Carothers and Eliza Ann Keowan, the 
fourth of eight children. His siblings were: Margaret Elizabeth (all Carothers 
surname), William John, Martha Ann, Matthew Douglas, Mary Josephine, George 
Turney and Samuel Edward. 

Benjamin can be found in the 1870,and 1880 censuses living at Liberty, 
Guernsey, Ohio, (Post office - Millinersville) with his parents: 
1870: Samuel Carothers 42, Elizabeth Carothers 30, Margaret Carothers 13, 
William Carothers 10, Benjamine Carothers 6, Mary Carothers 3, Mathew Carothers 
3. 
1880: Samuel Carothers 51, Elisabeth A. Carothers 41, Benjamin R. Carothers 15, 
Mathew D. Carothers 13, Mary J. Carothers 13, George F. Carothers 9, Samuel E. 
Carothers 7. 

Benjamin married Ella Mariah Phelps on January 31, 1889 at Guernsey, Ohio; they 
had a daughter Margaret(born November 6, 1906, died February 20, 1997). 

Family found in the 1900 census living at Washington, Tuscarawas, Ohio with 2 
Bell children (nephews). Farmer: 
Benjamin R Carothers 35, Ellen M Carothers 33, Ira A Bell 8, George E Bell 4.

Ella (Ellen) Mariah Phelps Carothers died May 5, 1907 at Tuscawaras, Ohio, 
leaving her spouse and an infant daughter. 

Benjamin married a second time to Lizetta Bock on August 25, 1909 at 
Tuscarawas, Ohio. (Lizetta born October 2, 1872 Port Washington, Tuscawaras, 
Ohio, died December 13, 1919 same). 

Couple found in the 1910 census living at Port Washington, Tuscarawas Co, Ohio: 
Benjamin R Carothers 44, Lizetta Carothers 37 (born 1873), Margaret E Carothers 
3, George E Bell 14 (nephew born in Iowa). Farmer.

Found in the 1920 census at Tuscarawas, Ohio farming: 
1920: Benjamin R Carothers, 55 (widower) , Margaret E Carothers, 13 (daughter), 
George A Bock, 21 (stepson), George E Bell, 23 (nephew). 

Found in the 1930 census living alone at Clay, Tuscarawas, Ohio. Farmer: 
Benjamin Robert Carothers age 66, widowed.

Benjamin Robert Carothers died July 11 (some sources say 13), 1941 at 
Tuscawaras, Ohio.

Additional Comments:
Note: Censuses were transcribed as found, obvious spelling errors were not 
corrected.  Found 2 death dates of July 11 and July 13th, 1941 for Benjamin, 
could not determine which was correct.
