RICHARDSON SUCCUMBS AT 85 New Phila. Lawyer, Author Broke Hip Dec 24 New Philadelphia, Dec. 29 --Services for Attorney J.M. Richardson, 85, retired lawyer, author and lecturer, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Linn-Hert funeral home with Rev. T.W. Hoernemann officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mr. Richardson died Saturday at 7 p.m. in Union Hospital, Dover, of shock resulting from a fractured hip suffered Christmas Eve in a fall at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Franz Deibel of North Industry. A practicing attorney here for 30 years until his retirement in 1938, Mr. Richardson also won recognition as the author of four books and numerous poems written mostly for his friends. He traveled extensively as a lecturer on the Lyceum Circuit and delivered numerous high school commencement and memorial addresses. His best know literary efforts were "God and Man," "Creole of the Missions," "Schoenbrunn," and "Epic Poem of the Romance and Tragedy of Ohio's First Village". He was a native of Sugarcreek Township and was a former teacher in the public schools of Canton, Mineral City, Sugarcreek Township and McConnellsville, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1906. At various times he was associated with C.W. Ferrell, Probate Judge Ralph Finley and Joseph Sani in law firms. He was a member of the McConnellsville Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the New Philadelphia Lions Club, and a former member of the Elks and Moose Lodges and the Tuscarawas County Bar Association. After the death of his wife, Lena, in 1938, he had made his home with three daughters and at the Deibel residence the last two years. Also surviving are two other daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Oliver and Mrs. Catherine Comstock of Canton; a son, Clarence Richardson of Tampa, Fla; two sisters, Mrs. Flora Scheu of Cleveland and Mrs. Della Brown of Columbus; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. -30- ==== OH-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ====
