Denman, one of the older residents of this city, died at his home on East Sixth Street Monday, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 2 days. For some time his health and mind had been affected, necessitating his removal to the Columbus State hospital. He returned about ten days ago, but it was evident that he could not live long. He passed away at a ripe old age, gaining the full use of his faculties some little time before the Death angel came. Mr. Denman was born in Hanover, Licking county, October 20th, 1823. On October 23d, 1844, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Southard, who with five sons and two daughters survive him. Mr. Denman received a liberal common school education. He was later in life elected marshal of Hanover, and afterward honored with the office of justice of the peace. In 1861 when the President called for volunteers, he enlisted in Co. D, 76th O. V. I. He took part in the battle of Fort Donellson, but not having fully recovered from a previous illness, the exposure was too much for his weakened system and he was compelled to enter the hospital, and when able to leave was given an honorable discharge. Mr. Denman moved his family to Union county in 1869, and a few years ago became a resident of Marysville. He always surrounded himself with Christian influences, and became a member of the Methodist church when still a young man. The funeral was held today, with services at the home by Rev. E. E. McCammon, assisted by the G. A. R. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/oh/union/obits/denman1651ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ohfiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
