Thurs. June 14, 1894 Sarah C. Carpenter was born in old Virginia Jan. 21, 1833 and departed this life at her late residense in Magnetic Springs June 4th, 1894, aged 61 years, 5 months and 13 days. When about 8 years old she moved with her parents to Union county and here she grew to womanhood. She sought the Saviour in her youth and united with the M.E. church. From the time of her early conversion all through the following hears of her life she was true to her profession by living a Christian life. On January 27, 1875, she united in marriage with George W. Montgomery and to this union one child was born. Her late sickness was deeply complicated, causing great suffering most of the time, but this she endured with great Christian fortitude for twelve weeks and when the Master came she was ready and left the suffering body and went through the gates ajar to her home in heaven, then with her all was well. She leaves her son who is now grown to manhood in great sorrow over his sad loss. Her funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at 2 O'clock from the M.E. church of this village, Rev. A.E. Strother officiating, in the presence of a vast concourse of sorrowing friends and the remains were laid beside those of her husband in the Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of H.W.
