L. PARTRIDGE Succumbs to the Shock of an Accident The accident to Reuben L. Partridge, Tuesday afternoon, in which he sustained a broken leg while helping to repair the Alsaugh bridge, seven miles north of town, resulted in his death about 5:30 o’clock last evening. It is believed that the shock from his injury, together with heart trouble, with which he had long been afflicted, were responsible for his death. When Dr. Mills was summoned Tuesday afternoon to reduce the fracture he at once realized that Mr. Partridge was in a very weak condition. He administered nitroglycerine and other powerful restoratives, which did not seem to have the desired effect, inasmuch as the patient complained of faintness. He was conscious until within fifteen minutes of his death. The announcement of the end fell like a pall over the community. The deceased was so well and favorably known throughout Union County that his sudden taking off was a genuine shock to all. Mr. Partridge had been a resident of Marysville since 1836, coming from Worthington, Franklin County, to where his parents had removed from Wilmington, N. Y. The deceased was seventy-seven years of age. He was formerly a carpenter, but in 1866 he took up bridge building, and until iron bridges came into use he constructed nearly all the bridges of Union county, in which line he was a thorough master of his work and was eminently successful. Mr. Partridge was a member of the first military organization in Union county, and during the Mexican and civil wars he took an active part in raising men and money for the Union cause. He was an accomplished drummer and until the last was in great demand when marshal music was needed. In this he was ever ready. Mr. Partridge had served in the city council, was township clerk and trustee some years. He was always known as a progressive and public-spirited citizen, whose absence in future years will be keenly felt by all, and particularly by his friends to whom he was ever loyal and a friend indeed. In 1846 he was married to Maria Wolford, who survives him, and is the oldest native born citizen now residing in Marysville. Of their children the following are living: Asenath Partridge, Mrs. H. C. Vosbury, Mrs. Francis L. Sager, Mrs. Waldo Guy, of Columbus, and Lillian Partridge. The funeral will be held at the family residence on Thursday at 3 o’clock, Rev. E. A. King of the Congregational church will officiate.
