G. V. & T. Ry. That cost a young colored man of this city [Marysville] his life. Frank Scott, of this place, had been working at the barber trade in Richwood for some weeks past and that night went to Marion and boarded a southbound freight on said road for the purpose of coming home. He climbed into a box car containing a lot of roofing slate. All went well until the train neared Delaware where it separated. As the forward part stopped at the station, just north of which is a high bridge and embankment, the following portion came on at a high rate of speed and colliding with the forward section caused six cars to jump the track and go down off the bridge and high embankment to the creek bottom some forty feet below. One of the cars that went down was the car of slate in which Frank was riding. The immense mass of slate fell upon the man completely burying him. Though he was crushed he was not unconscious when removed from the debris, probably within an hour or so of the accident. He was taken to the police station and Police Surgeon Mange sent for, but as we are informed nothing was done for the injured man, not even his torn and blood-soaked clothing removed. It was discovered that his spine was injured at the 7th vertebra and in consequence he was completely paralyzed below that point. In the forenoon Undertaker Shea, accompanied by Police Surgeon Mange brought him to his home in this city. Here his injuries were dressed by Drs. Henderson, but there was no hope of saving his life. He lingered until Monday at 2:30 p. m. when he died. Funeral services were held yesterday at 2 p. m. and the body was buried in Oakdale. He was 27 years of age.
