T. L. White officiating. Interment at Oakdale. The pall bearers were war comrades of the deceased, all members of the 121st O. V. I., in which Mr. Vanderau had served two years and ten months. Mr. Vanderau was one of the early settlers in this county, coming with his parents from Carlisle, Pennsylvania, when he was eleven years of age. The trip was made in a covered wagon, it being the only mode of travel in those days. He lived on a farm on the Milford road until thirteen yeas ago when he moved to this city and has since lived a retired life. Mr. Vanderau’s first wife died in 1898 leaving five children. Mrs. O. A. Wilgus of Broadway, Mrs. Charles Tretchel of this city, Miss Essie Vanderau who lived with her father, John, of Dayton and William, who resides on the old home farm. In 1901 he was married to Mrs. Anna Thompson, who survives him. His health has been bad for a number of years, but since last November he has been confined to his bed. He leaves two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Barbara Ruhl, of Cincinnati, Mrs. Kate Kinnel of Columbus, and John Vanderau of this city.
