Democratic Enquirer. January 07, 1869 January 4, 1869
On Monday last, the 4th inst., Sheriff John J. Shockey retired from the  position he
has so faithfully and honorably filled during the four years past, and Daniel Booth
was sworn in as Sheriff of Vinton county. Mr. Shockey carries with him, in his
retirement, the good will of all the people of this county - having performed his
duties in accordance with the law; and Mr. Booth has taken the office with the
confidence of all, and he will fulfill the duties of his office with credit to
himself and "in accordance with the statute in such case made and provided."
