His father was Henry DePue, a native of New Jersey and a Revolutionary soldier at Princeton, Trenton and Valley Forge. After the war for independence, he crossed the mountains to the wilds of the Greenbriar Valley, where he married Miss Maze. As newlyweds they crossed over to Little Kanawha River and settled himself at the mouth of the West, where he died many years ago. Archibald, his third son born 1815 in Lewis County, Virginia married, and after the marriage settled on the banks of the Little Kanawha near the mouth of the West Fork, cleared and cultivated a farm, rolled logs, built churches, school houses , and making roads etc. Many years ago Mr. De Pue became a professor of religion in the Baptist denomination, in which he remained faithful. Near the end of the Civil War, he sold his farm on the Little Kanawha and looked to Ohio, and settled imself in Vinton County, Ohio.He is buried in the Cassill Cemetery.
