DOWD DEAD" The following clipping from a Kansas newspaper conveys news that will be regretted by relatives an acquaintances in Vinton county. Harvey N. Dowd was born February 11, 1844 in Vinton County, Ohio, died at his home in Downs, Kansas, MAy 17, 1900. In the spring of 1862 he volunteered in Company F. 114 th Ohio Regiment and remained in service until the close of the war. He came back to Ohio and then to Iowa and from there he came to Kansas, where he took a homestead in Osbourne County, near Downs, which he still owns. May 20, 1877 he married Miranda Kierns. He leaves a wife and one son to mourn his departure. He was a kind husband, an affectionate father and an industrious citizen. He was a member of Ben Greenman Post G.A.R. of this place. The Downs, I.O.O. F. Lodge of which he was a member, had charge of the funeral, assisted by the G.A.R. The beautiful and appropriate I.O.O.F. ritual service was conducted at the grave. The burial was made in the Downs Cemetery. The relatives have the sympathy of all the community." Additional Comments: His wife was Amanda Kierns and the name of his son I do not know.
