A. E. Winter, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Shelby, officiating. The remains were interred in the family lot in Oakland cemetery beside her husband. Her pastor. Rev. Winter read the following sketch of the life of the deceased. "Sarah Hollenbaugh, was born March 10, 1840 and departed this life Jan 27th, 1906. Aged 65 years, 10 months and 17 days. She lived through the entire period of her early life within the bounds of Richland county, Ohio She was united in marriage to Levi Laughbaum of Richland county, Ohio in 1868. One child was born to this union. By hard toil and economic management they succeeded in building up for themselves a beautiful home and a competence sufficient to keep them comfortable all their days. For many years she has been a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Shelby, Ohio. Her husband was called to his eternal home in the winter of 1898. Besides her son, Leroy Laughbaum residing on the old homestead, Mrs. Laughbaum is survived by a sister, Mrs. Amos Crall of Shelby, Ohio, and five brothers as follows: Jacob Hollenbaugh, of Fostoria, O., Samuel Hollenbaugh, of Williams county, O., David Hollenbaugh of Defiance, O. John Hollenbaugh living in the state of Indiana, and Isaac Hollenbaugh of Shiloh, O. Our deceased sister possessed a retiring and unostentacious disposition rather shrinking from publicity, but was a kind good neighbor loved by all who knew her. * "Shelby Daily Globe" Shelby, Richland Co., Ohio Monday, January 29, 1906 The funeral of Mrs. Levi Laughbaum was held this morning from the residence three miles south of Shelby at 10 o'clock and the burial occurred this morning in the Oakland cemetery. Clarence Wayne Dancer (Preferred name Wayne) was born in Custar, Wood County, Ohio, on March 10, 1898. His parents were Edwin Dancer and Mary Emma Brim. He was the second child born in the family of six. The siblings were, Lloyd, Harriett, Doris, Anne and Miriam. Like his father, Wayne desired an education and to be a teacher. He attended Waite High School in Toledo and then in 1918 he began a long association with the University of Toledo, which was located in what is now Scott Park. He became chairman of the mathematics department at the University of Toledo in 1946 after many years as an instructor and professor. He resigned his chairmanship in 1960 and a year later at the age of 62, moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he became an early faculty member at Alaska Methodist University which today is Alaska Pacific University. In 1965, Dr. Dancer moved to San Diego, California to become chairman of the mathematics department at California Western University. He retired from that post a few years later when he turned seventy. He married Ruth Ann Black on August 12, 1924 and she died in 1975. They were married over fifty years and had one son, Robert. He married his second wife, Rosetta M. Godshall, on May 12, 1984. Rosetta died a short time after. He received his masters degree from Ohio State University and his doctorate from the University of Michigan. From 1927 to 1929 he was an instructor of mathematics at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Dancer was cited as a master teacher by the National Council of Teachers and belonged to many honor societies, including Pi Mu Epsilon and Sigma Xi.. He passed away on March 9, 1996, in Life Care Center nursing home in Escondido, California, just one day before his 98th birthday.
