Gettins, and one of the pioneers of Clyde, passed away at her home in Toledo last Friday afternoon at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 10 days, after a short illness. For the past twenty years she had been a resident of that city, and her husband died there eighteen years ago the 26th of this month. Mrs. Gettins, whose maiden name was Jane Harris, was born in England, and came to this contry at an early age. She married Mr. Gettins at Clyde in 1860, and their large family of children was raised in this community. There were thirteen in the family of whom the following survive: Mrs. M.M. Crabill, Palm Beach, Fla., V. M. Gettins, Toledo, Capt. Fred K. Gettins, 11th Coast Artillary, Fort Stephens, Ore., George F. Gettins, Mrs. John Kenninger, Stephen J. Gettins, Mary Gettins, Mattie Louise Gettins, all of Toledo, Floyd Gettins of Stockton, Cal., and Laurel E. Gettins, who is in the mechanical division of the war department at Washington, D.C. Few families were more largely identified with the history of Clyde half a century ago than the Gettins'. The husband was a well known contractor and a mechanical genius. During the Civil War he served four years in the 165th N.Y. Funeral services were held at 436 Melrose Aveneu, Toledo, on Monday at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Rev. Carhart of the Episcopal church, and at their conclusion the remains were brought to Clyde on a special car for interment beside the husband in McPherson cemetery. Mary friends accompanied the members of the family on the sad journey.
