SANZENBACHER Otto W. Sanzenbacher, 57, veteran Warren automobile dealer and civic leader, died of a heart attack Friday at his home near Leavittsburg. He retired from active business last year because of a heart ailment. Born in Canfield township, Nov. 21, 1895, he was a son of David and Sarah Corll Sanzenbacher. During World War I, he served with the Army’s 37th Division in France, and soon after his return home he became Canfield Dodge dealer. In 1922 he disposed of his interests in Canfield and went to Warren, where he organized the Sanzenbacher Motor Co., now headed by two of his sons. Mr. Sanzenbacher was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran church, taking an active part in its affairs. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Al Koran Shrine, The American Legion, Warren Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Buckeye Club. Until his health failed, Mr. Sanzenbacher headed the board of trustees of Trumbull Memorial hospital. He was also a director of the Union Savings & Trust Company. Surviving are his wife, the former Grace Saylor of Youngstown, whom he married in 1920, and three sons, Glen and Dale at home, and Lee, with the Air Force at Vienna. He was buried on Wednesday, the funeral being attended by a very large concourse of people, among whom many old residents were noticeable. Disgraceful conduct A strange and unseeming scene occurred at the funeral of Mr. Sensenbaugher, New Springfield, last week, being nothing less than a bitter, vindictive quarrel, over the coffin, and in presence of the mourners, between Rev. J. Humberger, of Petersburgh, and Mr. Adam Seidner, the undertaker of New Springfield: It seemed Mr. Seidner had been engaged to conduct the funeral, while Mr. Humberger was to conduct the religious service. Upon Mr. H.’s arrival at a rather late hour, he assumed the management of the funeral, which assumption was positively objected to by the undertaker. This led to a fiery war of words, during which the Reverend gentleman is said to have vigorously pounded the coffin by way of emphasis! The upshot of the affair was that Rev. Humberger ordered the funeral to proceed to the church, but as none would follow his lead, he was obliged to proceed alone to the church and there to wait, nursing his wrath, until the funeral arrived. Additional Comments: Additional Comments: Follow up from Valley Echo 27 Apr 1882 The little unpleasantness between Adam Seidner and Rev. Humberger at the funeral of Mr. Jacob Sensenbaugher very soon terminated after it was definitely settled who was running the funeral, Adam or the preacher. Notes: Jacob Sanzenbacher is buried at Koch Cemetery in Unity Township.
