Kennedy, 85, Lore City R. D. 1, died at 7:30 a.m. today (April 19, 1976) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital. He was born May 13, 1890 in Knox Twp., the son of the late George and Amanda Howell Kennedy, and was a retired carpenter. Mr. Kennedy leaves two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Baird, Coshocton, and Mrs. Irene Taylor, Cambridge; four grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His wife, the former Helen Bean, died March 6, 1956. Two daughters, three brothers, and three sisters are also deceased. Friends may call at Thorn Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. She was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Cambridge, daughter of the late Lorn A. and Addie M. (Nelson) Mourer. Mrs. Kennedy was a homemaker and a member of Flat Ridge Community Church, where she was involved in the establishment of the church, and served as youth group leader, Sunday School teacher and Sunday school superintendent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace W. "Tom" Kennedy, on Oct. 10, 1990. They were married June 18, 1931. Also deceased is a brother, Arthur Mourer. She leaves a son, Carl E. Kennedy of Glenpool, Okla; a brother, Charles R. Mourer of Cambridge, a sister, Sara E. Seidl of Plainfield; three granddaughters, Mrs. Joe (Diana) JOhnson and MRs. Mark (Sharon) Casillas, both of Tulsa, Okla.; and Mrs. Chris (Lynn) Lasson of Sand Springs, Okla; six greatgrandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Scott Lasson, Heather Lasson, Kristen Casillas and Katelyn Casillas; and two greatgreat- grandchildren, Gavin Johnson and Reece Johnson. High St., New Concord, died at 6:05 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 9) at Good Samaritan Medical Ceneter, Zanesville, following a three-week illness. A well-known farmer in the New Concord area, he was born Oct. 6, 1888 in Monroe Twp. near Otsego, the son of David H. and Martha Belle Duff MacDonald. He was a member of the College Drive United Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder many years and was active in church organizations. Mr. MacDonald spent hus early life in farming, moving to a New Concord are farm in 1939. He retired in 1966 and moved to New Concord. In addition to his wife, Mr. MacDonald leaves two daughters, Mrs. Isabel Hecker of Columbus and Mrs. May Russell of New Concord R. D. 2; three sons, David Elmer of Circleville, Robert L. of Fairview Park and W. Edgar of Monroe, Ohio; a sister Mrs. Margaret Poland of 821 N. 12th St., Cambridge; and 14 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Three brothers are deceased. She was a member of the Vollege Drive United Presbyterian Church, the Women's Society and the Evergreen Club of New Concord. Her husband, J. Clark MacDonald, died Dec. 9, 1971. NEFF, 91 John E. Neff died at home of his daughter, Miss Sadie Neff, in Miami, Fla., Tuesday evening. He was 91 years of age, having been born in Canfield Township Feb. 24, 1849, a son of Martin and Catherine Wilson Neff. His entire life has been spent here until 12 years ago, when he went to live with his daughter. His wife, Harriett Sanzenbacher Neff, died many years ago. He is survived by the daughter and five sons, Ensign E. of Milton township, Martin J., Calvin C., Cyrus H. and Roy J., all of Canfield: also two sisters, Mrs. Lois Edsall and Mrs. Caroline Beard. The body will be brought to Canfield where funeral services will be held at the Williams Funeral Home Saturday at 2 o’clock. Additional Comments: This obituary is sparse. John E. Neff was on of the leading business men of the area in 1940. He was a leading cattleman, merchant and owner of the Neff Co. in the early 1900’s. He became one of the largest land owners in Canfield Township. He was also an excellent, and active, advisor and supporter to his five sons and daughter. Neff Dies in Miami; Former Canfield Grocer (Special to The Vindicator) Canfield, Aug. 8 – John E. Neff, aged 91, died at 6 a.m. Tuesday in Miami, Fla., from infirmities of age. He had been a life-time resident here, until 12 years ago when he went to Florida for his health. Mr. Neff was born in Canfield, Feb. 24, 1849, and for more than 50 years operated a grocery store here. He is a member of an old pioneer family who, 135 years ago, built a log cabin and settled on the old Porter Farm, on the Canfield-Boardman Road. Mr. Neff leaves one daughter, Sadie C. Neff, with whom he lived at Miami, Fla.: five sons, Ensign of Milton Twp., Martin J., Calvin C., and Roy J., all of Canfield, and Cyrus H. Neff; and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Beard of Milton Township and Mrs. Lois Edsall of Canfield Township. NEFF DIES IN HER HOME Canfield Woman Was Married 57 Years CANFIELD – Mrs. Hattie S. Neff, wife of John E. Neff died in her home Sunday, aged 75. The death of Mrs. Neff ended a married life of 57 years. She was a member of the Methodist church and the Aid society, and was one of the best known residents of the village. Surviving are her husband and seven children, Miss Sadie, Miami, Fla.; Ensign, Martin, Cyrus, Calvin and Roy all of this place. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. In charge of Rev. Cassidy; burial in Canfield. Additional Comments: Only six children survived her. John E. and Harriett “Hattie” Sanzenbacher Neff had their first child, Sadie, on 09 Mar 1871. After the birth of this daughter they had four sons before another daughter, Rebecca, was born in 1883. Rebecca died as an infant in Jan of 1884. Their last child, Roy John Neff was then born 8 April 1886. Neff Dead Always Lived in Canfield” Mrs. Harriett S. Neff, 75, wife of John E. Neff, died last Sunday evening at her home on East Main street after an illness that extended over a considerable period. Deceased was a daughter of the late John and Sarah Oswald Sanzenbacher and was born in Canfield Oct. 26, 1851, consequently was in the 76th year of her age. Her entire life was spent in and near the village where she enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew her. She was a most kindly woman, quiet and unassuming, one who left an impress for good. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and active in its several branches of work. On March 31, 1870, she was married to John E. Neff, who survives with one daughter, Miss Sadie Neff, of Miami, Fla., and five sons, Ensign E., Martin J., Calvin C., Cyrus H., and Roy J. Neff all of Canfield. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. I. Callahan, and one brother, Charles Sanzenbacher, both of this place. Funeral services held from the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock were conducted by Rev. H.A. Cassidy, pastor of the M.E. Church, and the remains were placed in the village cemetery mausoleum. Additional Comments: Canfield Village Cemetery, East Main St., Canfield, Mahoning County, Ohio The Canfield Cemetery Village Mausoleum is in the front, facing E. Main St., of the Canfield Village Cemetery. It is the large stone building just to the left (east) of the main entry drive, and it is no longer in use. In the 1940's remains of those interred in the mausoleum were removed by family members to the cemetery. Harriet Sanzenbacher Neff had been interred there, but now (since about 1940) rests with a new headstone just outside the old Mausoleum in Section B, Row 1. She and her husband, John E. Neff and three of their children, Sadie, Calvin and Rebecca share the same headstone. (John E.’s parents, Martin and Catherine Wilson Neff, have a headstone just to the north of them.)
