History (Taylor Twp.) pg.685 VELASCO J. CASE, former, P. O. Broadway, was born in Delaware County, Ohio, June 20, 1840, and is a son of Newton and Azubah Case, whose biographical sketch appears in this work. He was united in marriage October 14, 1861, with Mary Ann Keller, who was born in Virginia September 18, 1843. He has been engaged in farming all his life, and has filled the offices of Township Trustee and School Director. He acquired a very limited education. Mr. and Mrs. Case are the parents of ten children, of whom seven survive-William L., born October 13, 1864; Adella May, born May 7, 1866; Addie V., born March 7, 1868; Newton O., born December 21, 1869; Ida M., born November 6, 1872: Clarence V., born April 7, 1878, and Minnie, born March 9, 1880. Note the Death certificate birth date differs from this Biography from the W. H. Beers book of Union co. Ohio history. Note also that Velsco was the son of Newton O. Case, yet the death certificate appears to show a T or L. for a middle initial. Here is the bio for his father Newton Case :From W.H.Beers book of Union co. Ohio (Taylor Twp.) pg685 NEWTON CASE (deceased), was born in Hartford County, Conn., October 18, 1805, and was a son of Martin and Rachel (Moore) Case, who were natives of Connecticut, where they were married. They emigrated to Delaware County, Ohio, where they remained until their deaths. Newton was united in marriage, November 3, 1828, with Azubah Gay, who was born in Massachusetts, October 1, 1810. When he was twenty three years of age, he bought sixty seven and a half acres of land from his father, and engaged in farming. He continued buying land and farming until, at the time of his death he owned nearly 895 acres, all in a high state of cultivation. He died August 12, 1881. He acquired a common school education, and had filled the office of Township Trustee of Taylor Township. Mr. and Mrs. Case were the parents of nine children, of whom six survive-Lucretia, born July 16, 1829; Electa, born March 30, 1831; Climenia E., born September 3, 1838; Clinton, born April 20,1835; Rachel, born February 12, 1837; and Velasco J., born June 20, 1841. Mr. and Mrs. Case were members of church, for a great many years, and in the death of Mr. Case Taylor Township lost one of its most valuable citizens. Which also states the date of birth at the 20th for Velasco. The date for Velasco, is most likely June 20, 1841. The 1900 Census records does however confirm that he was born on June of 1841. Obituary (Dalton) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Adams-Champaign-Pike County OhArchives Obituaries.....Dalton, William Henry November 14, 1933 ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/oh/ohfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Belinda Kent bkwendy@aol.com February 19, 2005, 9:43 pm Obit, handed down in family Obituary for William Henry Dalton The Angel of "Death" has visited our community and removed from our midst our friend, William H. Dalton, who was born in Kentucky on May 7, 1864 and departed this life November 14, 1933 being 69 yr. 6 months and 7 days of age at the time of his passing. He was the son of James and Barbara Dalton who have preceded him to the Great Beyond. He came to Adams Country in early childhood where he spent the remainder of his life, having been educated in the schools of Adams County, after which he entered the "teaching " profession for several years. He leaves to mourn his demise the following children: Anna B. Whitley and Sylvia Hill of Otway, Ohio; Barbara E. Cook of Springfield, Ohio; Henry Clay Dalton of Wisconsin; Walter S. and Charles W. of Urbana, Ohio; James H and Frank M. of Otway, Ohio. He also leaves 25 grandchildren, 2 sisters; Polly M. Spires of Peebles, Ohio and Ella M. Adkins of Otway,Ohio; one son William A. Dalton, two sisters Nola F. Waters and Laura B. Brumfield and two brothers JOhn H. and James L. Dalton are awaiting his coming to that "Celestial" City. He was striken with paralysis some two years ago and since that time he has bore his suffereing and misfortune with patience and fortitude. Tender care and attention were given by his children and his sister and brother-in-law with whom he had resided for the last six months. Everything available was done with the hope that he would be restored to former health but it was not in accord with God's will as he said "Come unto me all ye that are weak and heavy laden and I will give you rest." Brother Dalton united with the Wamsley M.E.Church 42 years ago and we believe that he has been a consistent member of the church, a loving father, a faithful brother and a sincere friend, whose vacancy will be hard to supply in the home, in the church and in the community in which he lived. He was benefactor to humanity, a lover of children and the children were kindly attracted to him. "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die" and we truly believe his influence will live in the hearts of his children and his friends and that it will inspire them to a greater endeavor in helping humanity and serving our creator. We trust that his life will be a sweet benediction to all and that his Christian virtues will be emulated in the lives of the youth of our community. The familiar words of the Apostle Paul can be applied in his earthly career. "I know wom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that wich I have committed unto Him against that day." God gave him the welcome approbation, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I shall make thee ruler over many things. Written by, Nelle C. Thompson Additional Comments: William Henry Dalton married, Laura Ellen Wamsley, in abt. 1891. She was the daughter of Hosea Moore Wamsley and Angeline Cullins Wamsley.William was the son of James L. Dalton and Barbara Bannister Crum. (The 1880 census on the Dalton family is confusing). James Dalton, William's father is said to be born in VA, in a later census it says West Virginia. Barbara is said to be born in Ky. The childrens parents are listed with parents born in different states. William H., John H., Pernola F., James L. and Polly, have parents both born in VA. While Ella M., Ulysses G. and Laura B. are listed as having parents born in KY and VA. Which would indicate Barbara Bannister as a mother. I am not so sure Barbara Bannister was the birth mother of the earlier children. All the children are listed as being born in KY, however.
