Clawson. William S. CLAWSON was born in Auglase county, Ohio, January 20, 1853 and passed away at his home, 840 Kentucky street, Lawrence, Kan., February 5, 1942, aged 89 years, 16 days. With his parents he went to Ilinois when he was three years old; and later about 1874, the family moved to Decatur county, Iowa where he lived until he brought his own family to Lawrence, Kan., in March 1904. October 18, 1878 he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Jane JOHNSON of Clark county, Iowa. To this union were born eight children; five of whom preceded him to the eternal home; Barton died in childhood; Edith Marie MORSER died November 25, 1924; Benjamin I., October 17, 1926; Edgar H., a World War veteran, died February 10, 1935 and Bernice Ellen died March 20, 1936. Mr Clawson was converted about 50 years ago at Oseola, Ia., and joined the Methodist Protestant church. About five years later he and his wife transferred their membership to the United Brethren church near Van Wert, Ia., moving their membership to the North Lawrence U.B. church when they moved here. Mr. Clawson was the last living member of the church board of trustees that selected the site and built the United Brethren church at 17th and Vermont streets in the years 1913 to 1915. He loved his church and was faithful in attendance as long as his health and strength permitted. Last October Mr. and Mrs. Clawson celebrated their 63rd wedding anninversary. Besides his faithful wife he is survived by two sons; P.E. Clawson of El Paso, Tex., and L.R. Clawson of Lawrence; one daughter, Mrs. Laura ROPER of Lawrence; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One brother J.F. Clawson of Lawrence, besides other more distant relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted February 7, at the Rumsey funeral home by Rev. Richard, the aged father of Hon. J.D. and C.E. BOTKIN, died at the residence of the latter on South Blaine street at 2:30 o'clock last Thursday afternoon, of dropsy of the heart. His age at death was 78 years. His last illness was short, as he was able to be about as usual until the Saturday previous to his death. At his bedside when he died were his sons, Hon. J.D. Botkin, congressman-at-large form Kansas, J.T. Botkin of Topeka, and C.E. Botkin of this city; his daughter, Mrs. E. C. WALDEN of Winfield, and son-in-law Rev. S.E. PENDLETON of Baldwin. Two ohter daughters, Mrs. Mary E. JONES and Mrs. Flora CALHOUN of Liberty, Texas, were unable to reach the city. Mr. Botkin was born in Clark county, Ohio, in the year 1820, but removed while still a lad to Logan county, Ill. Here he married Mrs. Nancy CLINE, a widow with two children by a former marriage, one Rev. W.H. CLINE, pastor of the M.E. church in this city in 1885-6 and the other is now Mrs. S.E. PENDLETON, of Baldwin, Douglas county. Coming to Kansas in 1866, he located in Linn county, and after a ten years residence there, came west as far as Sumner county. He remained here but a short time, settling finally on a claim near the present town of Attica in Harper county which has until recently continued to be his home. About four months ago he came to Wellington to make his home with his son, C.E., who is employed by the Santa Fe road.
