Mrs. Kulas, 76, died Feb 8 at the Renaissance in Olmsted Township. Before moving there in 1994, she had lived in Bay Village. In addition to serving on these boards for more than 15 years, Mrs. Kulas supported many animal-rights causes and had taken in several abused and abandoned pets. She was a native of Lakewood and had graduated from Lakewood High School. She then attended Lake Erie College, where she studied to be a classical organist. She left college in 1938 to marry Howard F. Kulas. While Mrs. Kulas abandoned her formal training, she supported the arts throughout her life. Gardening, bridge clubs and dancing were among Mrs. Kulas' other interests. Survivors include daughters Susan Zemek of Bay Village and Pamela Miller of Annapolis, MD; son, Carl F. of Bay Village; four grandchildren; a great grandchild; two sisters and a brother. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Jenkins Funeral Chapel, 2914 Dover Center Road., Westlake. Kulas Jr., 61, of Bay Village, former vice president of sales for the steel division of Textron Inc., died yesterday at Lakewood Hospital after a heart attack. Mr. Kulas was vice president of sales for Cleveland Metal Abrasive Co., for about 15 years before it was bought by Textron in the eary 1960's. He started in 1939 as a salesman for the old Otis Steel Co., headed by his uncle, Elroy J. Kulas. Later was chief metallurgist for Weatherhead Co. After retiring in 1971, Mr. Kulas worked part time as a consultant and was a director of Metal Products Co., and Rykon Specialized Platings Co. A Golden Glover boxer in New York State, he earned money while at Colgate University by serving as a sparring partner for Max Schmeling and other professional boxers. He was also graduated from Western Reserve Academy. OVer the years he also recruited football players for Ohio State, Purdue and Florida Universities. In the last few years he also sought talented baseball players for the New York Yankees. Mr. Kulas was a descendant of an old Hungarian family of nobles, land owners for many generations. He was a member of the American Society of Metallurgists, Cleveland Yacht Club and Vero Beach Country Club. He had a winter home in Vero Beach. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Jenkins Funeral Home, 2914 Dover Center Rd., Westlake. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne; daughters, Susan Zemeck and Pamela Savon; son Carl and a sister Katherine Stewart of California.
