He was married in 1894 to Ella Snyder of Goshen, with whom he lived until her death which occurred May 14, 1920. She was buried at Goshen, May 17th, and on April 8th, 1927, he was tenderly laid to rest beside her with very appropriate ceremonies. His father, Wm. Kind, with his family consisting of his wife, Alice, two sons. Robert and William Jr. and daughter Belle, emigrated to America in 1853, Robert being then about 10 years old. On the breaking out of the Rebellion in 1861 he enlisted at the age of 17, becoming Corporal of Company C, Fifth, O. V. I. After a service of four and one half years he was honorably discharged and immediately re-enlisted but the war soon ended as also his services as a soldier, but as such he had participated in some 23 engagements, fought in the battles of Winchester, Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and many other important battles, and was with Sherman on his famous march to the Sea. His regiment the 5th Ohio, was involved in some fierce and bloody conflicts, was finally so cut to pieces that the survivors were distributed among other regiments. Too much credit cannot be given him for the sacrifice and defense he made for his adopted country. He suffered fevers and other afflictions, but having a strong constitution he survived it all and lived to a ripe old age. Shortly after the war was over he exempted a piece of government land in the state of Kansas and after some 5 years he returned to Ohio and to Roachester where he settled and remained until his death. Robert Kind was too worthy a man and citizen to pass without comment of the praises of his life and citizenship to go unsung. His faithfulness and obedience to the laws his loyalty to the cause and institutions of his adopted country are to be highly commended and appreciated. His life was plain and unostentatious, and though possessed of some peculiarities, he was always on the side of the right, a devoted Christian and a man of God. He lived to see the principles for which he fought embodied in the forms of both individual and national life, a united country and freedom guaranteed to all its citizens who are obedient to its laws. Lest we forget it is well to consider what the life of such a man as Robert Kind means to us as citizens. The privilege of being a citizen of this great Republic, the foremost and most potential nation of the world, the great teacher of other nations in how to be free. All this were not now only for such men as Robert Kind, who fought, bled and died that such might be. Robert Kind, was but a man, and more than that he could not be on this earth. This was all he aimed to be, excepting as to kind and quality. In these he sought to be a Christian, a man of God constantly abiding in the presence of his Lord and Master, as all who knew and came into close contact with him can attest. He learned to know that all the knocks and blows which come of human strife and all the aches and pains which mortal man is heir to, are but the opportunities to test his love and faith in his God, and to give to his virtues a better chance to grow. He was firm in the belief that death does not end all, death being but a separation of the soul and body. He bore his afflictions with a fortitude such as they possess who put their trust and faith in God. He is gone, but the principles for which he lived and for which he fought and for which he died, are become enduring forms of every day life. He fought a good fight, he has finished his course and is now come into that inheritance which the Lord giveth to all them who love his appearing. Goodble old neighbor and old friend Goodbye! Your face and form on earth no more I'll see. To meet you where you now abide, I'll try, And share along with you, Eternity. ROBINSON - Mrs. Lucinda Guttery Robinson, daughter of William and Mary Guttery, was born in this County, March 25, 1815, and died at the family residence in Roachester, on the evening of Friday, August 12, 1861. She was united in marriage with James A. Robinson, Esq., April 23, 1840, and, after residing in Kokomo, Indiana, Defiance and Plattsville, Ohio, returned to Roachester, where she spent the remaining years of her life. For many years she was severely afflicted, and was seldom free from pain, but no murmurs ever escaped her lips. As death approached, she said to her daughter Lauretta, in response to a question, "I have constant peace, but no ecstasy;" and to her son, the Rev. Wm. A. Robinson, formerly of the Cincinnati Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, who was unable to be present during her last hours, she sent this message: "Tell him I feel that Jesus supports me in a dying hour." The funeral services were held at the residence on Sunday, August 14, and the remains were interred in the village cemetery. M. STOKES. Horace M. Stokes, Esq., died at his residence in Lebanon, on Thursday the 12th inst., after a brief illness. He had long been a citizen of Lebanon, and had been honored by an appointment to an important office (Clerk of the Court of Warren County) before his majority, which he afterward held by vote of the people. The office of Grand High Priest, and subsequently the office of Grand Master, of the Masonic Fraternity for the State of Ohio, had been repeatedly conferred upon him, in both of which he was greatly esteemed and respected. He was a kind father and husband, a good neighbor, and an honest man. The disease of which he died was typhoid fever, though it was probably complicated with other diseases of a chronic character to which he was subject.. - Hamilton Intelligencer. Arne ======================== Obituary. Mrs. Hannah Simpson was born in Shropshire, England, in March, 1825 and died at Athens, May 28, 1895, aged seventy years and two months. The cause of her death was an attack of grip, which so affected her mentally, that she was certified to the Athens asylum for the insane, where she failed steadily till death came to her release. Mrs. Simpson grew to womanhood in her native land and came to this country in 1863, since which time her life has been spent in this and Clinton counties. She was the mother of four sons, three of whom survive her. The funeral services were held at Roachester and were conducted by Rev. Mr. Warner, of the Morrow Methodist church, Mrs. Simpson having been a faithful MEthodist since her union with that church over sixty years ago. Mrs. Simpson was kind and pleasant in her demeanor, a faithful friend to the sick and the needy and a patient and uncomplaining sufferer in illness. Her death is widely mourned and the family have deep and earnest sympathy in their bereavement. She was married to Walter Dale, December 20, 1866, with whom she lived pleasantly during the remainder of her life. To this union was born one child a daughter, who with the husband, survive her. In the fall of 1871 at a revival meeting held in the school house on Vermont street, she was converted to a Christ her Savior which seemed to sustain her to every affliction of which seemingly she had more than her share. Yet she never complained, but looked forever beyond as she expressed it a few days before she died to being with her Savior where she believed there would be no more suffering and calmly made plans in regard to her burial and seemed willing and read to go. Many loving hands cared for her during her last sickness for which she many times expressed herself so very thankful. Those who attended the funeral from out of town were, Mrs. M.E.
