Bro. Daub was born in Germany, and when 8 yrs old, emigrated to America and settled in York Co, PA. Jan 16, 1844, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Wallas. This union was blessed with 12 children, 8 sons and 4 daughters, 2 sons preceded him into the spirit world. In 1866 he moved to Ohio. While on a visit to his son Henry of Hicksville, OH, he suddenly took sick, and in less than a day, death had done its work. He was brought to his home in Burgoon, OH, where the funeral took place, April 13 from the Zion Evangelical church, where he was heard just a week before offering a closing prayer after a sermon by the writer. Bro. Daub was a faithful member of the Ev. Association for about 48 years. He will be greatly missed, but our loss is his gain. M.B. Farner, on south Cowen street, Henry Daub was taken violently sick Saturday morning at 8:00 and his death occurred Sunday evening at 7:05 o'clock. Mr. Daub was aged almost 73 yrs. He had been in ill health for several months, but was able to come from Elkhart last week to see the Farner family. When he became deathly sick Saturday morning a physician was called, but could be of no assistance. Mr. Daub was removed to Sacred Heart hospital Sunday evening at 6 o'clock and there it was found that he was suffering from a ruptured gall bladder and that death was inevitable. Mr. Daub was born August 7, 1844 at York, PA. At the age of 19, on August 30, 1864, he enlisted in Company K, 200th PA infantry, and engaged in six battles before the war was ended and he was discharged on May 30, 1865. In July, 1865, Mr. Daub was married to Katie Hinesman. The family lived in the neighborhood of HIcksville, OH for a score of years. Going to TN, they remained 10 yrs and then moved to Garrett[IN] where Mr. Daub operated a dray line for 4 yrs. The family returned to TN and stayed there 4 yrs. Mr. and Mrs Daub returned to this community and lived with a son, six miles SE of Garrett, and then went to Elkhart 2 yrs ago to live with a daughter, Mrs. Ida Renn. Surviving are the widow, 10 children, 61 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. 2 children, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren are dead. The children living are: John Daub of Elkhart[IN], W.H. Daub of Como, CO, A.E. Daub of Rochelle, IL, Mrs. Cora Rhodes of Ft Wayne[IN], Harvey Daub of Lawrenceburg, TN, C.F. Daub of Auburn, Mrs. Farner of Garrett, A.L. Daub and Mrs. Renn of Elkhart and M.L. Daub of Kendallville[IN]. 3 brothers and 3 sisters are living: William Daub of Highland, KS, Samuel Daub of Findlay, OH, B.F. Daub and Mrs. W.H. Ross of Fremont, OH, Mrs. Millie Furney of Battle Creek, MI, and Mrs. Susan Leffler of Burgoon, OH. Mr. Daub was a member of the Christian church. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Wed afternoon, J. Marion Small officiating. The pallbearers were old soldiers: Frank VanAnda, M.W. Smith, H.F. Sembower, Dr. A.A. Kester, James Wells and P.G. Keely. Interment was made in Calvary. Additional Comments: This is the paper April 12, and says he died "Sunday evening" Note that the dates don't add up; at his enlistment he should've been 20, not 19.
