All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/oh/ohfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: michelle babb mmbabb@yahoo.com July 4, 2006, 7:52 pm Fort Wayne(IN) Weekly Journal-Gazette, Thurs Jan 29, 1903 Catherine Zeimmer, youngest daughter of Abraham and Susannah Zeimmer, was born in Pickaway Co, OH, Jan 20 1821. She was left motherless when quite young and lived with an older sister until her marriage to John B. Foote, which took place near Sidney, OH, March 15, 1839. This union was blessed with eleven children, seven sons and four daughters. The oldest daughter, Eliza, died at 12 years of age. The rest all grew to womanhood and manhood, since which time Mrs. Rhoda Squires and Mrs. Alice Monroe have died. The following children yet survive: Harve, of Scipio township; Abraham, of Corunna, IN; Mrs. Maria Baldwin, of Hicksville, OH; Joseph, of Fort Wayne; Morton and William, who live on the home place. The husband of the deceased was the first white child born in Sidney, OH. After their marriage, they lived for a few years in Shelby county, OH, then removed to Darke county, OH, where they resided until 1848, when they came to Allen county[IN] and settled on a farm near Maysville. The deceased was a very hard-working woman and bore bravely the hardships of a pioneer life. She was the last surviving member of the family of Abraham Zeimmer. A sister, Mrs. Betsey Waddle, died Dec. 31, 1902. She and her husband united with the German Baptist Brethren church while in Ohio, and were faithful members until the death of Mr. Foote, which occurred on April 29, 1877. In the fall of the same year her eyesight became so affected that it was thought best to have an operation performed to save the sight. This proved a failure and she became totally blind and ws never able to see again. After this affliction she was never off the homestead but once. Her last sickness was of five weeks' duration. She endured great suffering as a result of the infirmities of old age, but she never murmured nor complained, and only waited patiently for the call of the Master. The subject of this sketch died Jan. 23, 1903, at the age of 82 years and 3 days. Funeral services were held at the Maysville M.E. church, Jan 25, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Luse. The remains were laid to rest in the old cemetery at Maysville. [signed]MELLIE PERKINS Additional Comments: Her son's name IS typed "Harve" in the clipping, not "Harvey". It says she had seven sons, and all children survived to adulthood except Eliza, but only names five sons. No report of the two other sons, or whether this is a typo.
