Main St., Newark, Ohio JOHN MCLAUGHLIN John McLaughlin, aged 67, died last Saturday morning at the home of his son, JAMES W. MCLAUGHLIN on Allen Street from paralysis. The funeral took place Monday from the Bell Church in Washington Twp., the funeral party leaving the house at 7 a.m. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. H. Newton Miller and the internment was in the cemetery adjoining the church. The deceased, who has been a resident of Newark for the last 18 years, leaves 5 children, 3 sons and two daughters, who all reside in this city. (Date of Obituary 16 January 1904) Additional Comments: John was married to a Mary Stevens. Both of their tombstones and the tombstone of a daughter, Belle (Isabelle) McLaughlin, are hidden under the branches of a tree very close to the back of the church in Bell Church cemetery. My husband has a picture of many of the McLaughlins, which appears to be taken outside this church in about 1895 or so. We can identify James W., wife and son, the George Koman family and what is probably John and Mary Stevens McLaughlin. Bell Church is right close to/on the Licking-Knox Co. line.
