Neff ffen@zoominternet.net June 2, 2006, 9:20 am Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 5 May 1933 OVERLY, Jessie [Mrs. Arch Overly] Ca 1985 to 28 Apr 1933 38y Mrs. Jessie Overly, 38 DIED SUDDENLY AT PRICETOWN WHILE TAKING PART IN A PLAY “You’ve been complaining and grunting for 50 years and you aren’t dead yet.” These were the words addressed by a co-member of the cast, of a group of Pricetown women taking part in a play at the Methodist church in that hamlet Friday evening, to Mrs. Jessie Overly, 38, who was impersonating Mrs. Sarah Glidden the invalid in the piece, “ The Heirs Get the Air.” The line was Mrs. Overly’s cue to settle back into her chair. She did so. A moment later one of the company discovered, as she thought, that Mrs. Overly had fainted. She was in fact unconscious and Dr. Mealy, summoned from Newton Falls in the ensuing excitement, said she had died instantly of a heart attack. The picturesque little church in Pricetown cemetery yard was crowded, the occasion being the final program of the school year of the local P.T.A. One of Mrs. Overly’s two children, Virgil, had taken part in the playlet, “The Old Timer’s Bureau” which preceded the play in which his mother and 11 other Pricetown ladies constituted the cast. Mrs. Overly’s daughter, Dorothy, was attending the Junior-Senior prom in Leavittsburg school where she is a junior. The dramatic passing of Mrs. Overly created a sensation in Pricetown and was a profound shock to her husband, Arch Overly, and to their children. Mrs. Overly’s funeral was held Monday afternoon at the church in which edifice she breathed her last. Interment was in the Wayland cemetery. JANE DODDS TRIMBLE, An Early Settler of Canfield and the Oldest Person in Mahoning County – Lived Nearly a Century. Mrs. Jane Dodds Trimble died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Plympton Gee, on Wadsworth street, last Sunday morning at 6 o’clock. Mrs. Trimble was no doubt the oldest person in Mahoning county. She was born in County Down, Ireland, August 3, 1801, and was therefore within five days of being one hundred years of age. She was married to William Trimble in Ireland, and the result of the union was six children, two of whom are living – Mrs. Elizabeth Knight of Ellsworth and Mrs. Plympton Gee of this place. The family came to America in 1849, locating in Canfield, but soon removed to a farm in Dublin, two miles southwest of the village. Mr. Trimble died in 1863, since which time Mrs. Trimble had made her home with her daughter, who for several years has resided in Canfield. Until within the past six months Mrs. Trimble was quite active, being able to assist in the household duties. Her mind was clear and she was a most interesting conversationalist. She was never so happy as when entertaining friends and neighbors. Plans had been partially made to celebrate the centennial of her birth, an occasion which she had for some time looked forward to with no little pleasure. Mrs. Trimble was a member of the Presbyterian church of which she was a regular attendant until recent years. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Wm. Dickson, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The burial was in the village cemetery. Burial: Section B Row 4 Canfield Village Cemetery, Canfield, Mahoning Co. In company with his Spaniel dog, “Freckles,” an almost constant companion, he had wandered to the pond, the edge of which was slippery and he fell into the water, covered with a thin coat of ice. The dog went to his rescue and succeeded in dragging him ashore just as his brother Hal, aged seven, and the maid appeared. Mrs. Davies started search for the child when he was missed from home only a short time and was quickly on the scene. She was a former physical director at the Y.W.C.A. and immediately tried artificial respiration. Failing in her effort, Williams’ invalid car was called and the boy rushed to Youngstown South Side hospital, the mother continuing her efforts enroute to revive life. At the hospital doctors, nurses and members of the Y.M.C. A. staff tried artificial respiration and drugs without success. Lee was a bright winsome chld and his tragic death was a sad blow to loving parents. Funeral services at the High street home Monday afternoon were conducted by Rev. W.S. Goode, retired Youngstown Christian church pastor. Interment was made in Forest Lawn Memorial park, Boardman Tp.
