Hines, 83, of Van Wert, died at 8:50 am Friday in Vancrest Nursing Home, following a brief illness. She was born Oct. 3, 1909, in Middlebury, OH, the daughter of Alluiva F. and Amanda Ella (Shook) Gipe. On Oct. 25, 1927, in Newport, KY, she married Virgil L. Hines who died April 6, 1962. Survivors included three daughters, two sons, a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Davis fo Van Wert, 16 Grandchildren, 24 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, four brothers, six sisters, four grandchildren, and a great- grandchild. Mrs. Hines was a former domestic house cleaner, attended First United Brethren in Christ Church and was a member of Rainbow Club, Van Wert. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Mon. in Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home with the Rev. John Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point. Calling hours are 2-5 and 7-9 pm Sunday at the Funeral Home. Preferred memorials are to the family. Race St., with whom he resided. Mr. Shook was born in the eastern part of Ohio and removed with his parents to Van Wert Co. 80 years ago. He resided in Harrison Twp before coming to this city in 1918. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Vella Harker, and Mrs. Effa Stevens of Sturgis, MI, Mrs. Nelle Conwell of Glenn St. Mrs. Ella Gipe of N. Race St., Mrs. Iva Woods of S. Harrison St., and Mrs. Ada Sites of N. Franklin St., three sons, Hebert of S. Race St. William of S. Tyler St., and Harvey of Ridge Twp., a sister, Mrs. John Dull of Glenmore, one brother, Ben Shook of Wren, 45 grandchildren, and 62 great-grandchildren. Funeral services in charge of the Gamble & Alspach Funeral Home will be held Saturday at 2:30 pm at the U.B. in Christ Church with Rev. W.C. Davies officiating, assisted by Rev. Argo Sudduth. Friends may view body at the Herbert Shook residence after this afternoon. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. A native of York Twp., she was born December 22, 1872, the daughter of the late Josiah and Sally Ann Waltz. She resided in that community until seven years ago, when she moved to Van Wert. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and the WSCS there. Market St., the dean of auctioneers in Van Wert area, until his retirement in 1953, died at 10:00am Sunday in the Van Wert Co. Hospital, where he had been a patient three weeks. He had been in failing health for several years. A son of John and Anna L. (Prichard) Bevington, he was born April 16, 1873, in York Twp., where he was engaged in farming and auctioneering until moving to Van Wert 18 years ago. Mr. Bevington started his career as an auctioneer as an assistant to the late George Bope and his first “sale cry” was for neighbor, Rufus Duprey. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Bevington was associated with Merle Knittle in the real estate and auctioneering business for nine years. Mr. Bevington’s wife, the former Gertrude M. Waltz, whom he married Oct. 1, 1892, died in 1951. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class and Methodist Men. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Russell (Hazel) Jones of S. Market St., Mrs. Albert (Rhea) High of Ohio City, Mrs. Walter (Anna) Lewis of Venedocia RFD 1, and Mrs. Darle (Cecil) Brown of Fairview; a son, Carl Bevington of Coldwater, MI., 14 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and two gr.gr granchildren. Two brothers and a sister are deceased. Services will be at 10:30am Wednesday in the First Methodist Church, Dr. Paul D. Chiles to officiatel. Internment will be in the Tomlinson Cemetery, Mercer County. Friends may call at the Cowan & Son Funeral Home after 7pm today. Bevington, one of the noblest ladies of the county, ‘occurred Thursday at the home of her son, E.E. Bevington, of York Twp., where she had been ill of cancer in recent months. Mrs. Bevington, whose maiden name was Anna Prichard, was more than seventy years of age and although not a native of Van Wert Co., had spent most of her life here. She was the widow of John Bevington and is survived by two sons, Richard T. Bevington of East Crawford St., and E.E. Bevington, of York Twp. She had made her home in Ohio City, until her sickness required her to go to the home of her son. Mrs. Bevington was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a woman of delightful personality, who remained young and pleasing in her older years. The funeral services will be held at the Tomlinson Church, Saturday afternoon at one o’clock.
