Death resulted from a fall in which he fractured his hip just a week ago. Due to his advanced age, the fall resulted in complications. J. C. THOMPSON was born in Centerville, Ohio on June 6, 1841. At the age of 17 he came to Lima and engaged in the dry goods business. In the eighties he organized and was made president of the Ohio National Bank, now known as the Old National Bank. Mr. THOMPSON was president of this institution for thirty years. Surviving the deceased banker, his wife having preceded him to the grave 20 years ago, is one son, MARSHALL SPENCER THOMPSON; a sister, Mrs. TURNBULL, of California; two grandchildren, J. C. THOMPSON, III, and Mrs. H. L. GAYLOR, Ft. Thomas, Ky., and two great-grandchildren, Master JACK and Miss HILDEGARDE, children of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. THOMPSON, III. Since the death of his wife, Mrs. MARSHALL SPENCER THOMPSON has presided over the old homestead. Funeral services will be held from the Thompson homestead, the Rev. KIRK B. O’FERRALL, of Christ’s Episcopal church, conducting the services. Burial will be made in the Thompson tomb in Woodlawn cemetery. He has been ill for several weeks, but took a sudden turn for the worse just a short time before his death. So sudden was the change that there was not sufficient time for the only son, HARRY LANGAN, of New York city, to reach his father’s bedside before death came. The son is on his way here, however, and will arrive tonight to be with his mother in her bereavement. He was born in Plymouth, Ohio [Richland Co.], and moved to Oklahoma City at an early age. He attended Central High School and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Laughbaum spent 27 years with Sinclair Oil and Gas where he became District Geologist in Oklahoma City. Later, he was Chief Geologist for Three States Natural Gas Company in Dallas. His wife, Dorothy [Tansel] Laughbaum, preceded him in death in 1994. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia, and her husband, Dr. K. K. Wallace, Jr., of Charlottesville, Virginia and a son, Graydon H. Laughbaum, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Houston, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren survive him. A private memorial service for the family will be held Friday, January 17, in Houston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Oklahoma Foundation, 100 Timberdell Road, Norman, Ok., 73019-0685. As he said, "I wouldn't have missed this trip for anything." FELTZ was born March 18, 1843, in Seneca- co. In 1850 his parents moved to Mercer-co. where they settled on a farm. In early manhood he served as a school teacher in Sidney and throughout Shelby-co. He was married to ELIZABETH HOLTGREVE in Delphos, April 19, 1864, and to this union five children were born. They are L. A. FELTZ, of 304 Lincoln-av; A. G. FELTZ and A. C. FELTZ, Route 7, Lima and O. J. and H. FELTZ, deceased. He came to Lima in 1866 and established himself in the insurance business, and next founded the Lima Courier, a German newspaper which he conducted until 1890 when he sold the plant to ADOLPH WEIXELBAUM. He was the founder and organizer of the Citizens Loan and Building Co., in 1882 and was president of the institution until the time of his death. He served two terms as county auditor, from 1900 to 1906. Surviving are his widow, three sons, 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services will be conducted from St. Rose Catholic church, interment at Gethsemane. CABLE, one of Lima’s foremost lawyers and financiers, died Sunday May 13th at his country home, Springside farm, after an illness of six months. Mr. Cable was born in Van Wert-co, near Van Wert, Aug. 11, 1859, the son of Mr. and Mrs. JOHN L. CABLE. He Attended the Van Wert schools and later attended the University of Michigan for a term and then took up the study of law. He came to Lima in 1880, finished his studies in the law offices of IRA LONGSWORTH and the late S. S. WHEELER and was admitted to the bar in that year. While his financial and business connections required a great deal of his time, he continued his law practice until the time of his last illness, being senior member of the law firm of CABLE & CABLE, his two sons, JOHN L. AND CHESTER M., being junior members. Mr. CABLE was married in 1881 to Miss MARY HARNLEY of Van Wert, who survives him. To the union were born six children, four sons and two daughters. They are JOHN L., congressman, now at Washington; DAVIS A., of Canton; CHESTER M., Lima; JOE H., Tulsa, Okla.; Mrs. J. R. MCCABE, Tulsa, Okla.; and Miss MARIAN, at home. Mr. CABLE is also survived by his mother, who resides at Van Wert, and two sisters, Mrs. C. S. HOUGH, Miami, Fla., and Mrs. E. M. TOLAN, Van Wert. Funeral services will be held at Trinity M. HALFHILL, 62, Dies From Heart Attack Attorney and Lifelong Friend of President HARDING. JAMES WOOD HALFHILL, senior member of the law firm of Halfhill, Quail & Kirk died April 15th at his Lima home, after a month’s illness, following an attack of influenza. The influenza had affected his heart, but despite exhaustion, he attempted to take care of pressing business at the office. The death of EDWARD MAIRE, a close friend, March 26th, was a shock to HALFHILL. The day of MAIRE’s death was HALFHILL’s last day at the office. HALFHILL’s mother, Mrs. ELEANOR WOOD HALFHILL, of Mercer, survives her son. She is 90 years old. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a brother, CHARLES W. HALFHILL, of Mercer, two sisters, Mrs. AMELIA H. POWELL, wife of Dr. E. A. POWELL, Cleveland; and Mrs. MARTHA H. SHATZEL, wife of J. E. SHATZEL, Bowling Green, O., and a half-brother, A. P. HALFHILL of Los Angeles, and one son, JAMES WOOD HALFHILL, JR., 25 HALFHILL was born on a farm near Mercer, Mercer-co., March 1, 1861, the eldest child of MOSES and ELEANOR WOOD HALFHILL. He was educated at Ohio Northern university at Ada and the University of Cincinnati. In June 1887 he came to Lima and became associated with JACOB C. RIDENOUR under the firm name of Ridenour and Halfhill. This partnership continued until the death of Ridenour in 1908. The present firm of Halfhill, Quail & Kirk was established January 1, 1909. HALFHILL was married in September 1886 to CORA MILLER, daughter of Rev. I. J. and LOUISE SPAIT MILLER. Private funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon. LONGSWORTH, a prominent Lima attorney and former mayor, died February 3rd following an automobile crash the day before. After a thorough investigation of the accident, police said they believed the collision to have been unavoidable because of weather conditions. WILLIAM B. CARR, of Jackson- st, driver of the other machine told police that visibility was poor because of falling rain and sleet. LONGSWORTH died at St, Rita’s Hospital from a fractured skull, never having regained consciousness. LONGSWORTH had been a resident of Lima since 1878. He was born at Van Wert, Oct. 2, 1859, and was a son of the late Dr. and Mrs. WILLIAM N. LONGSWORTH. He was prepared by a tutor for the junior year at Wooster college when in 1878 he located at Lima and became manager of his father’s manufacturing plant which was engaged in the manufacture of handles for farming implements. Although LONGSWORTH deemed it expedient at the time to give up his collegiate course, it did not prevent his studying for the bar to which he was admitted in 1889. He then opened an office in Lima. In 1890, he was elected mayor of Lima, serving two years. Surviving relatives are the widow, ESTHER LONGSWORTH; one son, WALTER I. LONGSWORTH, of Indianapolis; two daughters, Mrs. JOHN BREESE and Mrs. MORRIS H. SMITH, both of Lima; three brothers, S. N. LONGSWORTH, of Ft. Wayne, REESE LONGSWORTH, of Pamplin, Va.; and two sisters, Mrs. PETTY M. EDSON, of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. D. W. LONG, of Convoy. Burial will be in Woodlawn. He is survived by six children, four sons, Dr. OTTO OWENS, Kalida, and JOSEPH OWENS, Bluffton, and four daughters, Mrs. AGATHA OSTENDORF, Delphos, Mrs. MARY PLEASANT, Bluffton, Mrs. ZENOBIA ESELY, Mt.
