Thies, aged 63, a widely-known resident of the southeastern part of the city, died at 1 o'clock Tuesday morning at the residence, 136 Potomac street. She had been ill about six months before her death. She was the wife of John Thies, the architect. Both her sons, Urban C., and Walter J. Thies, are also architects. In the demise of Mrs. Thies the community loses a helpful resident, and the family a loving wife and mother. She was born April 27, 1853 in Dayton, and her maiden name was Elizabeth Clikert. She was married Sept. 29, 1874. She leaves her husband, two sons, Urban C. and Walter J. Thies; two daughters, Mrs. Eleanora Kilcoyne and Mrs. Garfield Puls; three grandchildren, Russell J. Kilcoyne, a student at St. Mary's college, and Betty Jane and Suzanne Thies, children of Mr. and Mrs. Urban Thies. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity church, Friday morning at 8:30o'clock. Besides rearing her own children she has been a loving mother to her grand daughter Iris Winegar. She suffered a paralytic stroke 22 months ago., which deprived her of the power of speech and the use of her right arm. She suffered a second stroke Xmas Day from which she never rallied. She leaves to mourn her passing a devoted husband who, with the aid of her grand daughter, has done everything humanly possible to comfort and cheer her in her sore affliction, a daughter, Mrs. Anna Tucker of Fort Worth, Texas a son Calvin E. Hanna of El Cerito, California, two grand daughters Iris Winegar and Edwinna Tucker and two half sisters, Mrs. Winnie Davis and Miss Sadie Philips besides a host of friends.
