HESTER. Elmer A. Hester, 68, 11325 Pearl st, Los Angeles, Calif., died Monday at 4:30 a.m. in Santa Monica Hospital, Santa Monica, Calif. Born Feb. 16, 1903 in Ross County, he was a son of David and Mary Jane Grieves Hester. On May 28, 1930, he married the former Stella Hobill, who survives. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hester is survived by a sister, Bessie Seville, of Columbus. He was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters. Last rites will be read Friday at 2 p.m. in the Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Noble Miller officiating. Interment will be made in South Salem Cemetery. Friends will be received at Murray's after 4 p.m., Thursday. Norman Beckwith officiating. Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Bainbridge American Legion Post. Mr. Hester died at 3 p.m. Friday near his residence when a tree fell on him while cutting trees in a nearby woods. He was born May 3, 1915, in Ross County to DAVID and STELLA MILLER HESTER. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Seabees, member of the Bainbridge American Legion Post 13, Bainbridge Masonic Lodge, and the Greenfield Eagles. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving is his wife, JULIA, whom he married March 18, 1939; a son, CHARLES W. HESTER, of Bainbridge; three daughters, Mrs. CHRYTAL A. OSBORNE, of Newark, Mrs. BECKY BROWN, of Washington C.H., and Miss KATHY JO HESTER, of Bainbridge; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Mrs. ALMA HESTER, of Greenfield; one brother, PAUL HESTER, of Granville; a sister, Mrs. VIRGINIA RIGGIN, of Columbus; and a nephew, LEROY HESTER, of Houston, Tex. Thies, 82, widely known retired architect, died Tuesday morning at the Good Samaritan hospital, after an illness of a week. He suffered from heart disease. An architect and engineer for 35 years, he was in business with his sons under the firm name of Thies and Thies up to 1928. He helped direct the construction of the Troy-Pearl Laundry building, the Joyce-Cridland Co., the Santa Clara Avenue Church of Christ, the Holden hotel, the McCormick Manufacturing Co. building, the new buildings of the St. Elizabeth hospital, the Fenwick club in Cincinnati and various other edifices. For many years he resided at 3131 N. Main st. and was beloved of the children of the neighborhood who called him "Grandpa". He was born just off the Brandt pike and was the son of Theodore Thies a native of Germany. He belonged to Sacred Heart church, and the Knights of St. John, St. Martin Commandery. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Eleanore M. Kilcoyne, Mrs. Garfield Puls; two sons Urban C. and Walter J. Thies; nine grandchildren; four brothers, William, Henry, Charles, and Frank Thies and a sister Mrs. Elizabeth Hochwalt. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the residence, followed by requiem high mass at Sacred Heart church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. A native of Dayton, Mr. Thies was a member of Our Lady of Rosary Church and a charter member of St. Joseph's Orphans society. Surviving are six daughters, Sister Rosina of the Sisters of the Poor, OSF, St. Elizabeth hospital; Florence C. Thies, Mrs. Bertha Grusenmeyer, Mrs. Mary Ritter, Mrs. Catherine Seibert and Mrs. Josepha Seibert, all of Dayton; two sons, Carl J. and Theodore H., also of Dayton; 28 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
