Mrs. Fiffick was born Sept. 3, 1911, in Youngstown, a daughter of Matthew and Josephine Chitarovich Vogrin. Besides being a homemaker, she helped her husband operate the Fiffick Service Station and Recap Shop in Campbell for 30 years. Her husband, Thomas D. Fiffick, whom she married October 12, 1931, passed away March 4, 1971. She leaves her children to cherish the memories she blessed them with, a son, Dr. Thomas E. (Patti) Fiffick of Hudson; daughters, Betty (Jack) Wasko of Campbell, Carole Fiffick of Canfield, with whom she made her home, and Jody (Rick) Vernal of Canfield; brothers, Charles of Youngstown, John G. Sr. (Anita0 of Youngstown, and George J. of Youngstown; sister, Dorothy (Carl T.) Tesner of Youngstown; 10 grandchildren, Robert Wasko, Jacquelyn (Mark) Shaw, Bethanne Wasko, Alexis (Hank) Mathews, George Fiffick, Max (Amy) Fiffick, Hannah, R.T., and Elizabeth Vernal, and Ashley Fiffick; six great-grandchildren, Aaron, Joan, and Adam Mathews, Samuel and Isabella Fiffick, and Ian Shaw. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; sisters, Sarah Liktar, Caroline Bury, and Rose Vogrin; brothers, Matthew, Thomas, Michael and Steve Vogrin; and daughter-in- law, Joan Ashley Fiffick. Following the wishes of Mrs. Fiffick, there will be no calling hours. Services will be 11a.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church. Fiffick, 61, Dies: Had Garage in Campbell CANFIELD - Thomas D. Fiffick, 61, of 172 Hilltop Blvd., a deputy motor vehicle registrar in Campbell and garage operator there for many years, died of cancer at 4:50 p.m. Thursday in Northside Hospital following a year's illness. Mr. Fiffick was born Sept. 15, 1909, in Herbert, Pa., a son of Stephen and Anne Mrosko Fiffick and moved to Canfield 17 years ago from Campbell. He was owner and operator of the Tom Fiffick Service Station and Recap Shop in Campbell for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Jednota Lodge, Greek Catholic Union, Knights of Columbus Marian Council, American Retreaders Association and the Independent Garage Owners. He was a deputy license registrar in Campbell more than 20 years. Besides his wife, the former Ann Marie Vogrin, whom he married October 12, 1931, he leaves a son, Dr. Thomas E. Fiffick of Canfield; three daughters, Miss Carole Jean at home, Miss Jody, a student at Syracuse University, and Mrs. Betty Wasko of Campbell; a sister Mrs. Jean Bradley of Colonia, N.J.; two brothers, William S. of Columbus and Martin of Poland, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wasko Funeral Home, Campbell, and 2:30 p.m. in the church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon Sunday until time of services at the funeral home where memorial services will be held Saturday evening. "JACK" WASKO, 73 CAMPBELL - John J. "Jack" Wasko, 72 a lifelong Campbell resident passed away peacefully Wednesday with his family at his side. Jack was born June 29, 1932 in Campbell, a son of the late John A. and Julia (Onder) Washko. He was a 1950 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, where he excelled in both football and basketball. In 1949, he was the fullback selection for all Mahoning County as well as the North All-Star Football Team. He attended the University of Louisville and Youngstown State University. He served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960 and is a veteran of the Korean War. While in the Navy, he crossed the Arctic Circle and became a full- fledged Royal Order of the Blue Nose, and also crossed the Equator, becoming a True and Loyal Son of Neptunus Rex. This is a rarity that sailors are able to complete both of these mysteries. In 1958 he graduated from the Pittsburgh Institue of Mortuary Science and completed his apprenticeship at the Shriver-Allison Funeral Home in Youngstown before joining the Putko-Rich-Wasko Funeral Home. In 1967, he became the proud owner of the Wasko Funeral Home, where he conducted several thousand funerals during his career, treating the funeral industry as a ministry rather than a business. Besides being a member of many church, civic, fraternal and community organizations, he most recently served as president of the St. John Cemetery Board. He also held memberships with the Local, State and National Funeral Directors Associations. In 1998, he was honored and inducted into the Campbell Memorial Athletic Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in football. He was an avid bowler and was a member of many leagues over the last 40 years and also sponsored many teams. He leaves many accomplishments and precious memories to be shared with his wife, the former Betty Ann Fiffick, whom he married Nov. 27, 1958; his three children, Robert J. Wasko of Youngstown, Jacqueline A Wasko (Mark) Shaw of Campbell and Bethanne Wasko of Poland; a grandson Ian Shaw of Columbus; two sisters, Virginia Gorski and Gladys (Cy) Balas, both of Poland; and many extended family members and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother- in-law, Thomas D. and Anne Marie (Vogrin) Fiffick; a brother-in-law, Joseph Gorski, and a sister-in-law, Joan Ashley-Fiffick. The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Wasko Funeral Home. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. John Catholic Church. The Wasko family requests that memorial contributions be made to the John "Jack" Wasko Athletic Scholarship Fund. Market St. died Wednesday, May, 26, 2004,at Horn Retirement Center, following a lenghty illness. Services will be tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 at Murray Funeral Home in Fredricksburg with Rev. Jeff Graebing officiating. Friends may call tonight (Thursday) from 6 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. She was born Aug. 24 1936 in Fredricksburg to Charles and Emma(Hains)Duncan. She had formerly worked at the Tip-Top Restaurant. She was a member of the Native American Munsee Delaware Nation and was known as Spotted Butterfly. She had made her home in the Fredrickburg/Wooster area all her life. Surviving are her four children Shirley (Kennith) Wolfe of Ashland, Martha Frazier and Ronald (Noreen) Fain, both of Wooster and Ralph Middaugh of West Virginia; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Lloyd) Haven of Wooster and Majorie (Norval) Dawson of Fredrickburg and four brothers Harold (Shirley) Duncan and Carl (Debbie) Duncan,both of Wooster, Kenneth Duncan of Fredrickburg and Earl (Linda) Duncan of Dresden. Dickerson Dies in CHAUNCEY, June 13, 1928 Enoch Dickerson died at his home Tuesday evening at 11:30. His death was due to paralysis from a third stroke suffered several weeks ago. Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 by the Rev. N. O. Warren on Friday and burial will be in Nye cemetery. Mr. Dickerson was born to Enoch R. Dickerson and Mahetable Holcomb on April 09, 1860 in Jackson Co., OH. and has been a resident of Chauncey for several years. Last rites held in CHAUNCEY July 22, 1930 for Elizabeth Dickerson Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Miller Dickerson age 70, were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock by the Rev. G. B. Courtney of the Church of Christ. The church trio sang three hymns and burial was made in Nye Cemetery. Mrs. Dickerson died last Friday at the home of her sister-in-law Mrs. Anna Hartley of Vinton Co. where she had been for a few days visit. Her body was taken to the home of her son Emmett Dickerson in Chauncey, with whom she had been living for two years since the death of her husband Enoch Dickerson. Mrs. Dickerson was a mother of nine children, six of them now deceased. Her surviving children are: Thomas and Emmett of Athens Co., and Edgar of Jefferson Co. Dickerson & Mahetable Holcomb Bone Coal Fall Fatally Hurts Chauncey Man CHAUNCEY -- A Chauncey resident was injured fatally and a fellow worker hurt in a bone coal fall at Hocking Mine 25, Wednesday afternoon, mine officials reported today. The death victim was Emmett Dickerson, 48, who died in Sheltering Arms Hospital at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, three hours and five minutes after the accident. He suffered a crushed chest and a broken right leg. Suffering apparently minor injuries was his buddy, Lester Locke. Locke was taken to his home in Morristown. Mr. Dickerson was the last of a family of nine children. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Simmers, Chauncey, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Betty Palmer, Cleveland; also, one son, Jack Dickerson, Norfolk, Va. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Chauncey Methodist Church, by the Rev. Gilbert Courtney. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.
