Conn. At the age of 13 he emigrated to Canfield, Mahoning County, Ohio, with the rest of his father’s family. He was married to Lydia Sackett, of Warren County with whom he lived happily until his decease. They became the parents of seven children, two of them died in infancy, one lived to adult age and died in the blessed hope of the gospel, and the remaining four were permitted, with their pious mother, as a united christian family, to surround his bed while he took his dismission from the church militant to join the church triumphant. The writer of this notice was intimately acquainted with the subject of it from a child and knew him to be a person of correct, sober habits in his youth. He early became hopefully pious and united with the Congregational church in Canfield, and remained a beloved member of the same several years, when, on account of some conscientious scruples, he was led to transfer his relation to the Methodist Episcopal Church, in which he lived a worthy, devoted member until he removed to Illinois about two years since. As to his moral and christian character, he was considered by all who were acquainted with him as being “without spot.” He always manifested a spirit of liberality towards other christian denominations. He was evidently a man of faith and prayer. “Blessed are the ???? Borts was returning from Niles with his nephew, Thomas Finch, who was driving the car, when it struck a rut in the road, a tire was torn from the left front wheel, and the car was pitched forward crashing through a fence. Borts was thrown from the car with a terrible force. In the fall a piece of fence board penetrated his right leg, tearing the leg in a frightful manner, and passing through the thigh. His left leg was also crushed below the knee, when he landed under the front part of the truck. Finch was thrown clear of the wreck and escaped any serious injury, but was completely overcome by the shock and was taken to his home on Homewood avenue in Warren by men who came by just after the accident occurred. Borts was rushed to the Warren City Hospital in Holloway’s ambulance and he was immediately taken to the operating room where the leg was amputated. He died before he could be removed from the operating room. Death was due to the loss of blood which he suffered when the leg was torn by the piece of fence board. The body was removed to the undertaking rooms of W.J. White, on North Park avenue, where it will remain until Tuesday evening when it will be taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. George Foos, 808 Terra Alta avenue. Funeral services will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Foos, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, when Captain Rickard, of the Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will be made in Oakwood cemetery. Mr. Borts was born in Ohltown, on February 14, 1886, and received his education in the Ohltown school. He came to Warren when a boy, and has been well known to many friends here, who regret very much to learn of his tragic death. For the past year he had been employed by the Frank George Construction Co. on the Red Run sewer, and resided with his niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Finch, 613 South Homewood avenue. He was a member of the Salvation Army, and of the Eagles Lodge, and is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Harlan, Mrs. George Foos, and two brothers, Charles and Seymour Borts, all of Warren File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/oh/mahoning/obits/borts445nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/ohfiles/ File size: 3.2 Kb ______________________________ ------------------------------ X-Message: #8 Date: 20 May 2006 17:13:08 -0000 From: Archives To: OH-BMD-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <20060520171308.4492.qmail@leaf3.bananic.com> Subject: Oh-Mahoning-Trumbull Co. Isaac Best, a well known farmer residing in Lordstown, dropped dead in his buggy while driving to the Canfield fair early Wednesday morning. Heart disease is given as the cause of his death. With Mr. Best at the time was his grandson, Noble Best. The two had arisen early and after Mr. Best had done his chores they started for the fair. A short distance south of Austintown nearly in front of the residence of William May, the old man’s head fell forward on his chest and his body relaxed. The grandson summoned help but Mr. Best was dead when it arrived. Mr. Best was a man about 68 years old and had resided in Lordstown for the past forty years. He had been troubled with heart trouble for sometime and his physician had often warned him against over exertion. Wednesday morning he arose before daybreak and had all of his chores done early. Immediately after breakfast he with the grandson started for the fair. He was apparently in the best of health and spirits. Surviving are his wife and one son, Andrew Best of Lordstown.
