Joseph Chise, 24, was killed in action in France on June 28th, the War Department has notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Chise., Newton street. Pvt. Chise, an infantryman, was inducted into the army in June, 1942, and after receiving training in several camps in this country was sent to England. Pvt. Chise was born in Canfield Oct.12, 1919, and after completing one year in high school was employed as a truck driver in West Virginia and in Youngstown, until his induction. Surviving are his parents, five sisters, Rosie and Vera at home, Mrs. Anna Knapern, Mrs. Helen Bosak and Pauline Chise of Cleveland, and one brother, George Chise, who recently received a medical discharge from the army. William Benjamin Cox [Husband of Freda nee Post] 1 Mar 1915 to 30 July 1944 29y 4m 29d Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Cox, who reside a half mile north of the village, were notified Monday by the War Department that their son, Pfc. William Benjamin Cox, 29, was killed in action in France July 30th. On Monday Mr. and Mrs. Cox received a letter from Pfc. Cox, written three days before he was killed, in which he said he expected to go into action soon and that he likely would not be able to write for some time. He was serving with an Infantry Unit. Pfc. Cox entered the armed forces April 1, 1943, and after receiving basic training at Camp Wheeler, Ga., he was stationed at Camp Swift., Texas, and Camp Meade, Md., going overseas in November. He landed in England and soon after was sent to Northern Ireland, where he remained until the invasion of France began. Pfc. Cox was born in Youngstown March 1, 1915, and came to Canfield with his parents in 1926. He attended Canfield schools and prior to his induction was employed as a plant maintenance man in the Brier Hill plant of the Youngstown S. & T. Co. He attended St. Patrick’s Church in Youngstown. Surviving besides his parents are his wife, the former Miss Freda Post, whom he married Feb 8th, 1941; a sister, Mrs. Mary Louise Miller of Canfield; three brothers, Charles and George Cox of Youngstown and Pvt. Jack Cox stationed at Camp Fannin, Texas, and his grandmother. Cristall, South Broad street, have been notified by the War Department that their son, Pvt. Harold B. Cristall Jr. was killed in action in Italy Nov. 29. Some weeks ago word was received that he was missing in action, and it was presumed he was a German prisoner. No further details were given. Pvt. Cristall was born in Youngstown Nov. 4, 1918, and came to Canfield with his parents in 1923. He graduated from Canfield high school in 1939 and until his induction into the armed forces Oct. 20, 1941, was employed by Charles Credico as a truck driver. He last visited home in April, 1942. Pvt. Cristall received his basic training at Camp Wheeler, Ga., and Fort Dix, N.J. and after being sent overseas was stationed in Ireland and Scotland. His division landed in North Africa the first day of the invasion. Late in January, 1943. Private Cristall was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart award. Besides his parents, he leaves two sisters, Ella and Lillian, and two brothers, Loren and Charles, all at home.
