Martin Whitacre was born in Harlan township near Morrow Warren County Ohio July 14 1814 and departed this life March 5, 1900 aged 85 years 7 months 19 days. He united in marriage with Mary Howard February 14, 1835, and she after a wedded life of fifty nine years died February 7, 1894. To this union were born ten boys and seven girls of which eleven are living today and six of whom have gone on before. He was converted in the school house at Osceola under the preaching of Rev. John Hisly of which he was a charter member of F. W. B. Church of Sugar Run about thirty years ago and lived a faithful member until death. After his conversion he always loved the old fashion prayer meeting and the old fashion hymns pleased him best. Bro Whitacre during his boy hood had not the privilege as his father died when he was a small child to obtain much of an education but he always loved to read the bible. He had a remarkable memory and could repeat many passages of Scripture. He was always guarded in his conversation and was very particular when he told anything to always give the author. During the last fifteen years of his life he suffered greatly with kidney trouble. He looked forward to the time when he would be free from all afflictions. He loved to talk of that sweet rest that remains for the finally faithful. He is greatly missed by his family friends and neighbors but their loss is his gain. His funeral took place last Wednesday at Sugar Run church Rev. George Hoover Officiating. Source: The Western Star 5 Mar 1900.
